How to make a quilt gallery wall

Posted on September 9, 2014December 8, 2017 by jenny

I think I’ve mentioned that the only room in desperate need of a makeover is our living room/dining room. It’s a long room which runs the length of the house and is lovely and light. We’re in the process of deciding on a new sofa so hopefully that will influence a colour scheme soon or vice versa.

You know I love to make doll quilts. They are pretty wasted on my 2 year so I’ve gradually been sneaking them away from her and washing them with the idea of hanging them and having my own quilt gallery wall.

It was so simple to do that I thought I would share it with you today. all I needed to create my quilt gallery wall was a Dignitet stainless steel curtain wire and a pack of Riktig curtain hooks. They have small clips on the end which make them perfect for hanging textiles.

Ikea supplies for making a hanging wall display

My husband kindly hung the curtain wire for me. He’s a real stickler for making sure things are perfect, and straight!  My doll quilts are quite small so we hung the wires in two lines in our dining room area, above our oak sideboard.

Then I just needed to pick which quilts to show off. Three quilts fit on each line so I’m currently displaying the I Spy, rainbow hexagons and Grandmothers garden quilt on the top line. Beneath that hang my embroidered bee, maverick star and the Wild Olive Summer Stitching Club quilt.

I’m planning a few more seasonal quilts so I can change my little display as the seasons change. Let me know what you think!

This is a really nice idea, it is so good to have things on display, especially when you’ve made them yourself! I love the idea of switching them up as the season changes, really fab idea!

great idea, though those quilts are so precious I’d love to see them in shadow box frames, that would be gorgeous! i have an antique doll quilt that i’ve been wanting to frame for years, but haven’t quite figured out the best way to do it, sigh! thanks for inspiring us on craft schooling Sunday!
