Craft stick minibeasts

This term is all about minibeasts for my 4 year old. He’s been enjoying learning about life cycles and the nursery even have some tadpoles which they’re all feeding and watching grow day by day. Keen to carry on this learning at home we decided to make some craft stick minibeasts.

You will need:
a selection of colourful craft sticks,
sellotape
pipe cleaners
googly eye stickers
sticky dots

First decide which animals you want to make. We made a dragonfly, butterfly and ladybird and I’ll show you how we made the dragonfly.

The next step is to choose the colours of your animal and find the corresponding craft sticks. We used coloured craft sticks but you can always paint your craft sticks if you need to!

Line up your sticks and sellotape in place. Turn your craft stick creature over and place another craft stick in the middle, use craft dots to keep in place. Cut a small length of pipe cleaner, sellotape in place on the wrong side and bend in place to look like the antennae. Add a pair of googly eyes.

We also made a craft stick butterfly and ladybird in the same way. My 4 year old wanted to make a worm but we agreed that was too simple, a craft stick spider might be fun though!

I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who nominated me for a BiB, I’m so excited to announce I’ve been shortlisted in the Craft category!

When I started my blog back in 2005 it was very much to record the things I made in my spare time. My craft time has been severely shortened with the arrival of my two children but I’m pleased to say they love to create as much as I do and we usually make something every day, from a new piece of art to some delicious cakes!

As I’ve been shortlisted for a BiB Award I would absolutely love it if you could vote for me once again here.
