A delicious family meal at ASK Italian

Posted on April 2, 2014July 8, 2016 by jenny
On Sunday we headed to our local ASK Italian for a Mother’s Day meal. We ate in the ASK Italian in Northwood which is in a converted Post Office. I’ve often walked past but never gone in so I was excited about finally venturing inside.
I booked online in advance as I knew it would be busy so when we arrived we were immediately taken to our table. The building is really light and airy and makes excellent use of the old sorting office for a spectacular environment to eat.

Although there was a special 3 course menu we opted to choose from the normal menu. The children were given colouring sheets (which also contained the children’s menu) and pencils which I thought was a nice touch and kept them busy.

The children enjoyed a set menu for £6.25 which included vegetable crudites with garlic sticks and dip. They both chose Pizza Pomodorini for their main course which was a really generous portion considering their ages. My 4 year old had a chocolate gelati with sprinkles for dessert and my 2 year old had the frutti.
The 4 year old loves this kind of food so happily ate everything put in front of him. The 2 year old is slightly fussier and was happy to sample something from everyone’s plates and a little of her own.

As we were hungry we ordered the Stuzzichini to nibble on whilst the children had their starter. It looked lovely (photo below) and was a selection of Pecorino Sardo cheese, Sicilian Nocellara olives, finocchiona salami and warm tomato crostini.

Then it was time for our main courses. I had ordered the Risotto con Pollo E Funghi as I love risotto but my husband doesn’t, so I seized the opportunity to try something I knew I would enjoy. I loved the combination of the chicken breast slices and sautéed mushrooms and the creamy white wine sauce was perfect.

My husband had a Linguine Carbonara (pictured below) which he really enjoyed and ended up sharing with our daughter, she’s a real pasta fiend!

Keen to sample the menu we did order desserts although normally a main course is enough for us. My husband had the Italian Cheesecake and I ordered the Grande Gelato which is basically Eton Mess Italian-style (pictured below). I need to make it at home as it was amazing and really complimented the risotto I had just eaten.

At this point we were really full and happy so settled up and toddled off to our favourite park for a very long walk. Our final bill came to £58.70 for meals for two adults, two children, hot and cold drinks which I thought represented good value. Everyone enjoyed their food, the service was excellent, especially considering we had to chosen to eat on such a busy day, and the atmosphere was perfect for enjoying a delicious family meal at ASK Italian.

This is the first of a series of posts written in conjunction with ASK Italian who are on a mission to remind people that pasta shouldn’t just be a backup when the cupboards are bare but an exciting and creative part of your kitchen. Respect the pasta!

I find ASK very pricey for the small portions (but then I have two teenage boys with bottomless pits for stomachs). We rarely eat out due to allergies but they were very kind and helpful and created dairy, soya, wheat and gluten free meals for my twins.

Gosh this has made me hungry and all sounds gorgeous. I love Italian food and it features in our weekly meals. My grandfather has close links with Italy and I like to learn how to cook Italian food to sort of carry on a tradition. I’d love to eat out as ASK – not easy with 4yo with autism but hey you know, one day x

We often go there when collecting, or dropping off our daughter at university. As a vegetarian, there are always so many options available – which is rare!

I LOVE Italian food! It’s such a sociable occasion when you get little bits of things to taste too – the salami sounds delicious.
