What a week we’ve had. Coughs, cold, the flu, Christmas plays and parties. Christmas cards written and sent. Christmas gifts almost all wrapped. Mulled wine made and drunk. Christmas tree bought and decorated. This weekend was lovely and quiet (on purpose) and the only things we really wanted to do was get out to our local farmers market and take a ride on the Santa Shuttle.
First stop of the day was the Ruislip Artisan Food and Craft Market. We’re so lucky to have this on our doorstep and the children love it. It’s held around the Manor Farm complex which is a beautiful setting and as well as food and craft stalls there is usually a petting zoo and children’s entertainment. On our last visit the children went to see the animals so this time they had a fun ride on a fairground ride.
There were some lovely things to buy and we treated ourselves to a beautiful print for our house of Ruislip Lido and some fresh coffee. The children took their scooters and enjoyed scooting through puddles and running around.
Then it was on to our second stop – Ruislip Lido for a trip on the Santa Shuttle! We kept this as a surprise for the children and they were really excited when they realised where we were. We took a ride on the steam train from Ruislip Lido Station to Woody Bay Station where we were met by magical elves who gave the children little goody bags full of sweets! Then we waited in line to meet Father Christmas and told him what we all wanted for Christmas. When our time was up Big Brother hadn’t finished telling him what he wanted which made me laugh. He was very concerned he wasn’t going to get the railway set he wanted so I tried to reassure him that Father Christmas knew exactly what he wanted.
After a yummy lunch at the cafe it was time for the return journey, just before the rain set in!

That Santa shuttle sounds like a lovely surprise for the children. We are starting work on our Santa grotto in the train shed today and hoping to excite the children here over Christmas with some fun rides.
