Heart inside a cupcake

Posted on February 8, 2013February 25, 2025 by jenny

I’ve tried to make something a little different this week with Whitworths sugars – I’ve baked a heart inside a cupcake.

baking with Whitworths

I used a favourite recipe to make a chocolate cake batter which I cooked in a square tin. When it had baked and cooled I cut out small hearts using a cookie cutter.

I then placed each heart in a cupcake case and added a generous dollop of vanilla cake mixture around each one. When they were baked and cooled I iced each one with yummy vanilla buttercream.

A delicious surprise in each one and perfect for your Valentine! What do you think?

Whitworths are running some brilliant competitions during February. To enter you must be following @WhitworthsSugar on Twitter. Each week @WhitworthsSugar will ask their Twitter fans a different baking related question, all you have to do to enter is tweet your answer with the well-themed hash tag:

Week 1 (2nd – 8th February)
What baked good do you love to eat? Tweet out your favourite bakes with the hash tag #LoveThatBake’

Week 2 (9th – 15th February)
It’s the week of love! Tweet what you’ll be baking on Valentine’s Day using the hash tag #ValentinesDayBaking

Week 3 (16th – 22nd February)
We all love home baked goods, but what’s your favourite? Tweet using #LoveHomeBaking’

Week 4 (23rd – 28th February)
Imagine being stranded on a dessert island, you’ve got your luxury items, perhaps a bed, a good playlist and a note pad, but what baked treat would you take with you if you could take only one? Tweet using the hash tag #DessertIslandBake

That’s not all! Each Friday one lucky person will be chosen at random to win a Whitworths goody bag (3 in total), this winner will be chosen from the previous week’s entries, the requirements are that they are following @WhitworthsSugar and have used the correct hash tag for that week (see above).

Love this. Really clever. Perhaps you could also make the heart from red velvet cake, which is chocolate cake with red colouring I think.

What a lovely idea. Might have a go at making these with my kids, as a Valentine’s gift for Daddy.
