6 handmade gift ideas for Valentine's Day

With Valentine’s Day now just over a week away I thought I would pull together some of my favourite handmade card, decorations and gifts in case you are looking for ideas.

I love Valentine’s Day. Not for the overblown gestures, but the simple message that lies at the heart of it all – sharing and showing how much we love. There is so much bad stuff going on in the world that I think it’s important to send a homemade card or gift and remind our loved ones that we appreciate them.

With my new-found paper cutting skills you probably won’t be surprised that I’ve made some papercut art this year. I really enjoyed making the layered swan papercut I wrote about here.

My husband knows how much I love papercutting so he won’t be surprised to receive this gorgeous pop-up Valentine’s card from contemporary card makers Cardology. Their range of cards have a delightful and unexpected surprise inside: an intricate three dimensional pop-up!

The elaborate paper sculptures are inspired by Kirigami, the beautiful Japanese art of paper cutting and folding, and are part of a range of over 100 fresh, design-led greetings cards in the Cardology range.

I did have a go at cutting one of the designs from my  favourite papercutting book by Poppy Chancellor. Then I discovered she had produced a limited run of ‘You are admired’ cards, hopefully based on one of her papercuts. I hope my husband doesn’t mind receiving two cards this year.

I find that the colour associated with Valentine’s Day is really welcome as we’re coming out of Winter. I enjoyed making some Handmade Valentine paper cut art for our home, it really brightens up the place.

My children have been busy making too, we really do have a creative home! This year they made washi tape Valentine heart bookmarks as well as Valentine heart stones to give to our family.

You don’t need to spend lots of money celebrating Valentine’s Day, I hope my ideas have helped!

Some lovely ideas! I am afraid I wouldn’t be very good at paper cutting but we could totally do those cute kid crafts!
