We have explored so many amazing places that I feel like I will never get a chance to write about them all. It seems weeks ago since we made it to exploring Denham Country Park with the kids. It’s another one of those places right on our doorstep which me had never got around to visiting, until now.
Exploring Denham Country Park with kids
We’re lucky to have a few Country Parks within easy reach of us, definitely one of the perks of living on the outskirts of London. Whilst we haven’t been able to enjoy a trip into the West End, we’ve had plenty of amazing walks in the countryside.
Denham Country Park is a 69-acre public park and Local Nature Reserve in Buckinghamshire and the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is part of the 42 square mile Colne Valley Regional Park, and the Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre and cafe are located in Denham Country Park. The country park encompasses a scenic and relaxing location on the banks of the River Colne, Misbourne and Frays, near the pretty village of Denham.
A friend had recently been and suggested we take a towel if the kids wanted to dip their toes in the stream, so we packed up the puppy, some snacks and a towel and headed out for the morning. The first thing we noticed is that the Car Park is really small! We parked in the overflow car park across the road but this was quickly filling up too. By the time we left people had parked all down the narrow roads leading to Denham Country Park. You have to pay to park in the car park too.
We parked up and walked into the Country Park. At the time we visited the toilets, visitor centre, cafe and children’s playground were all closed due to the pandemic. We headed off along one of the paths, past the paddling beach, which we promised to return to on our way back.
We had a really lovely walk, which went through the golf course into the pretty village of Denham. We had driven through many times but obviously never found the really pretty bit. There were some beautiful old houses, a village pub, Church and village green where we found the Denham Rock Snake.
The little village green was a lovely place to spot for a snack, and we took the opportunity to see if there were any geocaches in the area. Thankfully there were loads so we used them as an excuse to explore the village a little more. We found plenty of painted rocks on our walk too, we re-hid most of them in different places.
We had a lovely time exploring somewhere new. The kids were kept happy with looking for rocks and geocaches. Eventually it was time to walk back through Denham Country Park so the kids could dip their toes in the water. The little paddling beach wasn’t too busy but there were some children and dogs enjoying it. It’s a really lovely place to cool off on a hot day.
We can’t wait to go back when more of the park is open. The adventure playground looked fun and they run pond dipping sessions in the holidays too!
