Living in London I’m surrounded by amazing craft events and workshops. I’m pretty picky about the ones I will go to though and spend my hard earned cash on. Location is really important for me though and last year I only went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Ally Pally. I really wanted to go to the Handmade Festival, what was the Handmade Fair, but trains weren’t running to Hampton Court and I couldn’t find an easy way to get there. So I was delighted to read recently that after six fantastic years at Hampton Court, The Handmade Festival is back again and moving to a new home in Battersea Park.

A new location for The Handmade Festival

The Handmade Festival will be taking place at Evolution, Battersea Park. This is easy to get to from Central London, with good public transport links, meaning even more creative people can join in the fun for a hands-on weekend of making. The new location is fully accessible and level, meaning getting around The Handmade Festival will be easier than ever.

Battersea is a creative hub, home to the likes of Battersea Arts Centre and the Royal College of Art, making it the perfect place for The Handmade Festival.

What can you do at The Handmade Festival?

I’ve attended The Handmade Festival for a few years and always had a great time. I love having the opportunity to try new crafts and have tried so many different crafts from Tibetan Poetry Bunting to Papercut Horoscopes, Confetti Crackers and Felt Flower Brooch, wooden floral wreath, brush lettering, and stitching a felt keyring. I’ve always felt that the tickets were well priced and offered the chance to try new crafts as well as hear some of your favourite crafters speak. Of course there were lots of shopping opportunities too!

Last year it was relaunched as the Handmade Festival, I’m not really sure why as the Festival seems to have a similar set up to the Fair. Looking forward to this year there are promises of talks in the Super Theatre, hands-on sessions, as well creative makers and artisan producers.

Keep an eye on the website for details of all the 2020 workshops and sessions schedule. Last year some of favourite crafters were running sessions so I’m really hoping they will be there again in their new location so I can go.

The venue is accessible by public transport, nearest stations are Battersea Park / Chelsea Gate is 575 meters away (a 9 min walk) or Battersea Park Station is 977 meters away (a 14 min walk). There is also limited pay and display parking at the venue.
