Win a goody bag from the BookTrust {paper plate dream catcher craft}

Today I’m delighted to be taking part in BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, Bath, Book, Bed campaign. I have a really fun craft and giveaway to share with you. But first let me tell you a little more about BookTrust.

Bath, Book, Bed

BookTrust work to inspire a love of reading in children because they know that reading can transform lives. Each year they reach 3.4 million children across the UK with books, resources and support to help develop a love of reading.

They know that lack of sleep is one of the hardest parts of being a parent with young children and getting them to sleep is one of the biggest challenges. In fact, last year they found that new parents were losing out on over 650 hours of sleep a year. Their solution is a simple 3 step routine that includes a soothing bedtime read to help little ones sleep soundly. There’s no need for gadgets and gizmos, all you need to remember is Bath, Book, Bed. This has the added bonus of encouraging families to make reading for pleasure part of their daily routine and gets kids hooked on books from an early age. Pop on over to the BookTrust website for tips on and advice about simple bedtime routines.

This year BookTrust will be providing 600,000 free advice booklets for parents and hosting a week of activity (starting today!). They are also holding a fun Bath, Book, Bed Twitter Party on Weds 11th April between 8-9pm. Join in using the hashtag #BathBookBed as there will be a chance to win prizes and exchange advice regarding bedtimes.

I love our bedtime routine. I have to admit that bath has never been part of our bedtime routine as both my children had ezcema when they were babies. A bath actually seemed to wake them up but books have been central to our routine. We make sure to always spend time with them at bedtime, sharing a good book and talking over the day.

We love to craft too and enjoyed making a paper plate dream catcher to hang in my daughter’s room. It was really simple to make. I cut the centre out of a paper plate and punched holes around the inner edge. Then I let my daughter thread the holes with black wool and pieces of plastic straws which was perfect for encouraging her fine motor skills. You can see I was encouraging a black and white theme to go with her bedroom but she soon added colourful ribbons and some of her stickers. We punched an extra hole at the top so we could hang her paper plate dream catcher up in her room to help her sleep.
