With the children finally finished school we have been able to spend the day making. There have been so many crafts I have wanted to try, so it’s lovely that we finally have the time. Ages ago we received some items in brown paper bags, and I put these to one side until ew had time to transform them into gingerbread houses! It was a quick and easy winter craft so if you are looking for a quick craft to keep your children busy then why not try this.

All you need is brown paper bags and white pens or crayons. If you wanted to take this one step further you could add pipe cleaners for candy canes, or cut circles from coloured card to make a sweetie roof.

Our paper bags had handles so the first thing I did was fold these inside the bag, you could cut them off if you wished. The children hunted out all the white pencils and crayons they could find, then got to work decorating their brown paper bags. We talked about the things we would expect to see on a gingerbread house – doors, windows and a roof. They had fun making their own gingerbread houses, adding in all kinds of things, including a swimming pool!

Some white pens didn’t turn out so well on the surface of the bag, but the crayons did, although it was slightly messy. They decorated both sides of their bags and, when they had finished, we used paper clips to close the tops of the bags. They make for cute 3D Christmas decorations.

Oh they are mega cute! We normally have a big stack of paper bags too so I’ll have to try this with my two.
