I can’t believe it’s time for my last crafty post as part of the Project: recycle & create. I’ve really enjoyed the monthly challenge organised by Teach Me Mommy. This month we are all about the polystyrene. We don’t seem to get too much polystyrene packing but we do have plenty of the round balls which I’m using today.
Since living in Scotland for 5 years I’ve been a big fans of Tunnocks, I was even a member of the Tunnocks’ Caramel Wafer Appreciation Society, so today I’m sharing my tutorial for super easy Tunnocks baubles. This is a lovely craft which is totally child-friendly too. Perfect for sharing a delicious after school snack and developing those motor skills.
You will need:
polystyrene balls
Tunnocks Teacakes wrappers
Pins and ribbon to hang
How to make festive Tunnocks Teacakes baubles:
The first step is to remove the wrapper from a delicious Tunnocks Teacake. There are milk chocolate and dark chocoate teacakes, I prefer the milk chocolate but am using both wrappers for this. I find that there are two types of people – the kind who scrunch up the foil wrapper into a small ball or the one who carefully removes it without tearing it, smoothing out the creases. Can you tell I have a large pile of these wrappers?!
Although Tunnocks’ are a well-known Scottish delicacy, you can find them pretty much all over the place. At home we try to bite the chocolate off before touching the mallow inside, but there are lots of ways to eat them!
When you have your foil wrapper you can gently fold it around the polystyrene ball, making sure there are no cheeky white bits.
We did with our polystyrene balls which were all different sizes. Some of the foil wrappers ripped but we just scrunched them a little and smoothed them out. Our festive Tunnocks’ Teacakes baubles look great and my 6 year old even made a Tunnocks’ Christmas angel. Our hands smelled really lovely and our baubles will look great when we have our Christmas lights up.
To finish them off I added a pin to each one, pushed through a length of ribbon. I used long pins with glass beads on the end but you could use a drawing pin too.
