Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day in the UK

Posted on October 10, 2015September 27, 2024 by jenny

Have you heard of Star Wars Reads Day? The aim is to celebrate both the Star Wars galaxy and reading. Today (10th October) sees the fourth annual Star Wars Reads Day being celebrated around the world with the launch of new books, events and activity sheets. Our family are big fans of Star Wars but this is the first year my son has really understood the films and he’s been really excited about Star Wars Reads Day.

To get him (and the family!) in the mood, Egmont kindly sent him a lovely parcel of Star Wars goodies, including a selection of their new activity books, Star Wars Trading Card Starter Set and Cards, Star Wars Rebel magazine and his very own lightsaber. My son has recently started Year 1 and is getting on really well with his reading. I find reading books about his favourite subjects seems to encourage him so Star Wars Reads Day is brilliant for inspiring him to read more!

He received Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Activity Book, Star Wars Doodles and Star Wars Where’s the Wookiee? The three books contain a great mixture of reading and activities and he’s been waiting until his Daddy gets home from work so they can look through them together.

My son enjoyed his new books so much that we made a little video about them:

There’s lots going on for Star Wars Reads Day but if you’re not able to get to an event you may enjoy the fun Star Wars Reads Day Activity Kit which includes  colouring sheets, finger puppets, word searches, and quizzes. There’s plenty to keep your little Storm Trooper occupied until the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December!

We love Star Wars in our house. I’ve even got a few of the books. My girls are still too young to be into it but the Toddler has had a soft toy Yoda since birth.

I had no idea there was a Star Wars Reads Day – what a great idea! I’m going to have to admit that I’ve never watched a Star Wars movie (I know!!) but my daughter is now of the age when she enjoys films like this so we’ll sit down together and watch them soon! x
