How to build a fairy house

I’m really feeling Spring is on its way lately. The back door has been open letting some much needed fresh air in. We’ve packed our winter coats away and I’m really hoping the sunshine and warmer weather will stick around. The warmer weather means outdoor play! The children love to be outside after school and have been collecting all sorts of things for our Spring nature table.

Today I’m joining in with Building Blocks and Acorns’ Outdoor Play Challenge. Every day in March a parent blogger is publishing their idea for a different way of playing outdoors. My 3 year old loves playing with her fairies so we built a fairy house for them, inspired by nature.

Materials used to build a fairy house:
Palm fronds
Shells
Stones
Pine cones
Driftwood and twigs

How to build a fairy house:

We used a collection of driftwood picked up on our recent holiday and made it into a wigwam shape. We loosely tied the top together with palm fronds but the ground was soft enough that we could push the sticks into it to stop them moving.

fairy house made from sticks and stonesWe added the stone ladybirds we made last year and we can’t wait to add to our fairy house over the coming weeks. It’s pretty robust but there are some holes in the walls so I think we’ll be taking a walk in the woods at the weekend to find some more materials!

  3. This fairy house is pure magic! I love how you turned a nature walk into such a creative, hands-on project. The driftwood wigwam shape is so charming, and the shell floor and pine cone touches are just perfect. It’s wonderful to see kids so engaged with the outdoors—what a whimsical way to welcome spring!
