My children have always enjoyed watching the Clangers, just as I did when I was little. I think the message behind the show is a very important for little ones to learn – how we should spread kindness every day, just like the Clangers do on the little blue planet.
Kindness is one of those things which I’ve tried to instil in my children. But just how do you encourage your child to practice kindness? Take a look at this video to see what the kids thought about kindness.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51lbddJMo7o
I know my kids are kind-hearted, in fact we often laugh that my Year 2 son has become a bit of a beacon in the playground for the new Reception kids who are feeling a bit sad and new. I love the fact that it’s not just me that knows how lovely and kind he can be, and that others see that in him too.
The easiest way to teach your children about kindness is to be kind yourself. I hope that I set a good example to my children – although I’m not sure what they would say if they were asked to name the kindest person they know!
I love the Clangers for Kindness campaign. You can find out more on their special Clangers for Kindness site along with top tips for being a Kindness Star, a printable Kindness Reward Chart and read some of the #ClangersForKindness posts that have been shared.
I’m delighted to be able to share a lovely little giveaway to celebrate the#ClangersForKindness campaign. One lucky reader of the gingerbread house will win two adorable Clangers themed Gift in a Tin sets. Model Your Own Clangers contains everything needed to make your own Major, Mother and Small. November 3, 2016 at 2:56 pmI think showing your children by your actions that it’s not “all about you” instils kindness. So, taking that two minutes to chat to your elderly neighbour although you’re cold and tired, postponing that bath for five minutes to find a lost toy, or letting mum or dad watch the news or whatever before piling in with a non-urgent request.

November 3, 2016 at 4:47 pmIt doesn’t have to be a big grand gesture or involve money. Putting your neighbours bins out, giving up your seat on the bus, smiling as you pass someone- they’re all easy and kind ways to make someone feel better in their day. Make your default setting kind and you will find that you start to feel better for it.

November 4, 2016 at 10:21 amTeaching your children good manners. I think a lot of acts of everyday kindness stem from people respecting the others around them and as a society we’ve neglected educating the young the simple things such as holding doors open for people – all because of a warped sense of political correctness. It’s led to a generation that find it hard to even look strangers in the face…which is sad all around.

November 4, 2016 at 10:59 pmAlways try to give people the benefit of the doubt – you don’t know what people are going through, and being sweet and kind in the face of another person’s rudeness and unpleasantness might just make their day a little less black and they might in turn be a little nicer to the next person they meet.

November 7, 2016 at 11:40 pmI find a simple hello and a smile goes a long way. We were walking to school today and my 2 year old was in her buggy just smiling, waving and being her normal self and an elderly lady was walking past with her dog. The lady just lit up when she saw my daughter and commented that she had a winning smile, I think it made her day.

I always help elderly people on and off public transport – it takes seconds out of my day but means a lot. hold doors open for mums or dad’s with prams or toddlers, help someone lift a pram into a store if there isn’t a ramp, be kind to nature by never leaving your rubbish behind, plant wildflowers in your garden to give wildlife a home…there are so many different ways of being kind.
