Win a Scalextric bundle worth £150

One of my sons first toys was a little car. It may be a huge generalisation but I think that most children love playing with toy cars at some stage of their lives. Both my children loved the Disney Pixar Cars franchise so we had many, many years of watching films about cars whilst they played with all the different car characters and playsets.

There are many child development benefits in playing with toy cars. Amongst other things it’s known to aid their physical and cognitive development. Moving cars around helps their gross and fine motor skills, whilst moving cars with their hands helps children begin to understand how things move, which is great for their cognitive development. There is also the obvious benefits to speech and language, and role play too!

Scalextric Endurance range

I love watching my children grow and develop, aided of course, through their play. Over the years they’ve progressed from the little metal cars they’ve pushed along, to the more sophisticated Scalextric sets from Hornby and RC ones. These are great STEM toys, encouraging children to develop skills in the important areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Scalextric are a great heritage brand who make a track based slot car racing system. They kindly sent us some of their new Scalextric Endurance sets to review, and have offered the same bundle to one of my readers!

Scalextric Endurance range

Scalextric Endurance Set

Let me tell you about the Scalextric Endurance range. We were sent the new Scalextric Endurance Set LMP YELLOW VS GT RED as well as two extension sets. This first set is an entry level set and contains everything needed to set up your own race circuit and start racing. It contains a selection of track, two speed limiter controllers and two racing cars -LMP YELLOW vs GT RED. It’s a simple set and very easy to set up as the pieces slot together. The cars stayed on the track thanks to the magnatraction feature.

Scalextric Endurance Set

This is a great starer set but a little simple for my two at age 6 and 8. They were very keen to open the expansion packs.

Scalextric Track Extension Pack 1

There are seven extension packs and we received Scalextric Track Extension Pack 1 and the Scalextric Ultimate Track Extension Pack. Any of the expansion packs can be incorporated into a Scalextric circuit, and allow you to make simple ovals and figure-of-eight tracks to large layouts. You can even add one or more Track Extension Pack to your circuit – you are only limited by the size of your floor!

Scalextric Track Extension Pack 1

The set included two racing curves, borders and barriers. I liked that the reverse side of the packaging explained how the Track Extension Pack can be incorporated into any number of layouts. My 8 year old was happy to incorporate the track into his original circuit for even more fun.

Scalextric Ultimate Track Extension Pack

The Extension Packs are totally flexible in their design which means that any of the packs can be added to Standard or Digital Scalextric circuits. I think that the Ultimate Track Expansion Pack was was our favourite expansion pack as it included a variety of pieces which gave more interest to the circuit.

Scalextric Ultimate Track Extension Pack

Again my 8 year old was able to extend his track as the pieces included a Leap (Ramp up and down), Standard Straight Track, Hairpin Curves, Quarter Straight Track, Side Swipes and Borders and Barriers. It makes for an amazing track which covered the whole floor. My children have been having so much fun playing with it, especially enjoying the ramp.

We already had a few Scalextric tracks as my husband just loved his Scalextric growing up and was keen for our children to enjoy it too. We are so happy to add these sets to our collection. I think they make a great STEM toy, which are especially good for developing problem solving skills.

  2. Hairpin Curves – you gotta love trying to take them at speed 🙂 When I was a kid, I put talc on my scalextric bends to make them even more lethal.

  3. Side Swipes and Borders and Barriers.
My daughter would love building this and having lots of races with her daddy. Trying to keep it away from her little brother might be a challenge though!!

  4. Me and my husband were just saying the other day how this was once on ‘in ‘ toy. I think my son would love it
