I have a lovely giveaway to share with you today for a copy of What a Wonderful Phrase: A collection of amazing idioms from around the world by Nicola Edwards and Manu Montoya. Published by Little Tiger this month, this is a gorgeous hardback book which is a lovely read for children and adults too.
Have you ever wondered why we talk about ‘buttering someone up’ or where the phrase ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’ actually comes from? What does it mean to ‘comb the giraffe’ in France or to ‘wear a cat on your head’ in Japan? This beautifully illustrated collection of 29 curious phrases from around the world is a voyage of cultural discovery and a treasure trove of fascinating facts.
The book is beautifully illustrated and each double page is well laid out, we especially enjoyed the pronunciation guide for the trickier words! Great for children learning about idioms or grown up wordsmiths! What a Wonderful Phrase: A collection of amazing idioms from around the world by Nicola Edwards and Manu Montoya is available from all good bookshops priced £12.99.

There are 29. I love idioms and had great fun learning them in my French degree. My favourite is ‘tomber dans les pommes’ which literally means ‘to fall in the apples.’ Apparently it means to faint or pass out.
