It’s been a while since I shared a vintage find here. I still love charity shopping but as my children get older (and there is no more room for toys!), I’m able to focus on the things I want for myself a bit more. I love vintage games as they are fun to craft with. I have more than enough Scrabble sets but I couldn’t resist a sweet vintage Waddingtons Birds Spelling Pictures jigsaw I found. I absolutely loved the birdy theme (very on trend for Autumn) so snapped it up.
I bought it without seeing inside but I thought the birds would make beautiful badges. I was hoping to glue them onto a piece of cork then add a badge back on them. However when I got the jigsaw home the birds were a little bigger than I expected.
My children helped me make each of the 13 little puzzles. The pieces were quite large so they had fun. My husband saw what we were doing and said he had this when he was younger. Each piece had a letter which helped you learn the spelling of the bird.
The jigsaw is lovely but I’m not quite sure what to do with it now. It was made in 1968 and I love the style of the pictures. It seems a shame to just keep them in their box. I had a quick search and found Waddingtons made other teaching jigsaws too. There is one for Things That Go, First Spelling Pictures, Costume Dolls of the World and Farm Spelling Pictures. My husband would not be happy if I started collecting more but I’m very tempted!
My 4 year old started school today and she is in the Wren class so perhaps I should frame this little one for her.
Have you been charity shopping lately?
