Today it is my turn to take part in The 12 Days of Christmas blog tour. The book was published earlier this week and to celebrate lots of book reviewers will be sharing their thoughts about it. I love a festive book and I loved a previous book by the author, Poppy Alexander,
The 12 Days of Christmas by Poppy Alexander
From the author who brought you the The Littlest Library and 25 Days in December, it’s the most magical time of the year…
For the first time in ten years, Freya is back in the little village of Middlemass for Christmas. The streets might be twinkling with fairy lights, but after the recent loss of her mother, she’s never felt less festive.
Forced to sleep under the same roof as her handsome old school friend Finn, Freya realises she’s going to need a distraction – fast! So she sets herself a challenge: to cook the ’12 Days of Christmas’. Her delicious food soon brings the villagers together, and as each day passes, old friendships are renewed, memories stirred and there’s even the flickering of romance…
She was only meant to stay for the holidays, but could Middlemass – and Finn – steal her heart forever?
I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down! I was sneaking in a few pages whenever I could so I could see what would happen to Freya and Finn. I loved the theme of the 12 Days of Christmas which is based on the cumulative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verses. There are twelve verses, each describing a gift given by “my true love” on one of the twelve days of Christmas and Freya and Finn concoct meals around each day as they fall in love and Freya decides her future. The story takes place between Christmas Day to the day before Epiphany (5 January), just like the song.
It’s a light-hearted book which will get you in the mood for Christmas. The 12 Days of Christmas was published on the 11th November. It is available in Paperback Original, eBook and audio, priced £8.99.
