    End of the moses basket?

When I was pregnant and read current government advice that babies should sleep in your room until they are at least six months old I didn’t think we would manage this. We thought the baby would be too noisy or would wake too frequently and we would put the baby in it’s own room fairly quickly. At home he sleeps in his cot from 7 until 11 when we wake him up for a dream feed and put him to bed in his moses basket in our room. This has been our routine since he was 2 weeks old and…

    Thrifty treasures

We spent a lovely weekend with my family on the Isle of Wight which is where I grew up. We managed to squeeze in a visit to the seaside town of Ventnor as well as a trip to the lovely beach at Ryde. Ventnor is full of charity shops and I bought 3 lovely vintage jigsaws for 10p which were a complete bargain. The pieces are large (perfect for chubby baby hands in a couple of years) and reminded me of a chunky wooden jigsaw my grandparents’ kept at their house which I often played with. I’m hoping to get…

    Another weekend gone

I spent the weekend enjoying the sunshine on the Isle of Wight with my family. My youngest niece was particularly cute, although she didn’t really want her photograph taken.

    Remembering

We have just got back from another lovely weekend on the Isle of Wight. We spent Saturday scouring the many charity shops of Ryde and picked up some beautiful vintage plates and saucers. The lady in the shop said her family had the same set when she was growing up so thought they must be quite old. I spent some time with my mum who taught me how to use the sewing machine she has given me and I did my first piece of applique! She also helped me with my knitting and I knitted a cute little bonnet for…

    Day 27

I am so glad it’s almost the end of November. Blogging every day is hard! I spent this evening making Christmas cards and wrapping presents. We’re off to the Isle of Wight this weekend and swapping Christmas presents so I’ve been super organised this year. There’s a big pile of presents ready to go. I hope the weather will be good to us!

  • Cath Kidston - Family History

    I’m torn

My love of family history has recently been replaced by a love of all things vintage. You name it, I’ve been buying it. I have Cath Kidston-ed our flat with tablecloths, tea towels, napkins, baskets and the like. I spent last weekend trawling antique shops on the Isle of Wight and found a beautiful 1950s child’s chair. Perfect for the garden we don’t quite have yet. I also have a few pieces of vintage furniture which need a lick of paint. However, the launch of the 1841 Census has whet my appetite again, time to tackle those brick walls!
