    How to display Lego Minifigures

If you’re a mum of small people, or perhaps married to a Lego nerd, then you may have a house full of Lego minifigs. Now I love Lego Minifigs, especially since they did some amazing collabs such as the Disney one. Oh yes, I couldn’t wait to collect those and quickly did, thanks to the lovely staff at our local toy shop who could identify a blind bag in seconds. My husband collected the first series of the Simpsons, and my 7 year old recently collected the Batman series. This left us with a problem. How to display a collection…

Putting the finishing touches to our spare room

We’re lucky to have a spare room for friends and family to come and stay. It is well used but was in desperate need of a makeover. It’s quite a dark room, filled with a spare bed, vintage chest of drawers and lots of bookshelves. A few months ago we painted all the walls white and put up a gorgeous Orla Kiely wallpaper on the end wall. We chose the Orla Kiely Multi Striped Petal but looking back over my blog I can’t seem to find a finished photo of the room. We changed the position of the bed and…

How to make a Pez display case

I’m a bit of hoarder and can’t help but collect things. Do you remember Pez holders? They are plastic holders which hold little sweetie bricks, and they have a different characters head as the dispenser. I had them when I was growing up, although sadly never kept any of them. Now my children have quite a large Pez dispenser collection and I can’t help add to their collection. Our Pez dispenser collection has been sitting in a plastic bag, only coming out when the children bought a new dispenser or wanted to eat some sweets. Since we re-decorated our living…

Adding detail with Annie Sloan stencils

This week I booked my tickets to The Handmade Fair. I went last year with my sister and we had a brilliant day out so I can’t wait for it this year. Last year I tried some new crafts but also went shopping! We’re both big fans of Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and there was quite a big Annie Sloan stand where I picked up some pots of paint as well as a stencil. My sister and Annie Sloan! I had read a lot about the stencils and really wanted one to finish off a little project. Years ago we…

    Intelligent Waste with Joseph Joseph

At the moment we’re saving up to re-do our kitchen and this is hopefully something we will be able to do next year. The kitchen is the heart of our home so it’s important it is functional and looks good too. We were recently offered the Stack range of recycling containers from Joseph Joseph to review. They are an ingenious way to neatly store away all your different types of recycling, letting you separate it into different compartments, while decluttering your kitchen space. Although we had a bin to house our recycling it was always overflowing onto the floor. So…

The benefits of a good nights sleep

How important is sleep to you? Earlier today I was reading an article about Prince over on the BBC website. Apparently he used to boast no one could last as long as him without sleep. I’m not sure that can be good for your health but I doubt you can be a musical genius without sacrificing something. I love my sleep and pretty much the only thing that stops me having a good nights sleep is my husband. Before your mind jumps to the wrong conclusion let me state that his snoring keeps me awake, nothing else. Monday 25th April will…

    Reorganising my kitchen with Dial

So I know I don’t usually write about kitchen storage but today I feel compelled. I have a kitchen cupboard I just dread to open. Every time I do the contents fall out all over the floor. This cupboard contains my plastic containers and leftover takeaway containers. I use this cupboard on a daily basis. I’m a thrifty cook and will always store leftovers if it means I can save time in the kitchen (my least favourite room in the house!). Over the years this collection has grown, especially as I now seem to be cooking more meals than ever before…

    Finding homestyle inspiration

I spent an enjoyable weekend planning some home improvement. We were in the West End on Saturday and popped into my favourite shop, the Orla Kiely shop in Seven Dials. Have you seen her new range of homewares? There are lovely things but what I really love are the room displays which give you an idea of what her furniture, or a rug, cushion or wallpaper might look like in situ. I took some cheeky photos as we’re planning our lounge makeover this year. We have a long lounge and dining room where the wall has been knocked down by…
