This week the digitally restored and first widescreen release of The BFG The Movie was released on DVD and Blu-ray. I love Roald Dahl books and The BFG was always one of my favourites. It was strange sitting down to watch a film from my childhood with the toddler but he loved it so I will be off to the library to find some Roald Dahl books to read together. To celebrate the release of the film I have a lovely competition for you, where you can win a copy of The BFG and Family Golden Ticket to the Roald…

Power, wealth, sex … and glorious extravagance. They all find a home in the sprawling saga of the Ewing clan in Dallas. At 357 episodes, Dallas remains one of the longest lasting prime time dramas in American TV history. I was hooked when I was younger but I was a bit gutted to google and find it ran from 1978 to 1991 (i.e. a very long time ago!). The good news is that it’s being brought back for a new series starring some of the original characters and new ones too, I’ve seen the adverts and can’t wait to catch…

Need to remember where you buried your treasure? Want to learn the secrets of navigating winds or learn how to cook delicious giant squid with lemon? This is non-stop family fun! Featuring the voices of Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tenant and Brendan Gleeson, it’s a great introduction…

Our latest film from the Tots100 Film Club was The Lorax. Based on the children’s book of the same name, and written by Dr Seuss, it tells the story of the Lorax who speaks for the trees against the greedy Once-ler. We have a couple of books by Dr Seuss, including The Lorax, which we love to read. Fortunately the toddler is also happy for some quiet time so we were able to sit down to watch The Lorax on DVD. It’s quite short at 25 minutes so was the perfect length for him to sit and watch. The…

The toddler is a sporty little thing, loves the park and his scooter so I knew he would love Scooby Doo Spooky Games. Warner Brothers kindly sent us a copy of the DVD along with some fun games for the garden. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much at my toddler trying to keep a plastic egg on a plastic spoon. We’ve also been trying to learn how to ‘catch’ and throw small bean bags which is just hilarious. We’re feeling in a bit of a lull during this dead space between the end of the Olympic Games…
