This weeks’ bargain was purchased to complement my collection of vintage sewing supplies. This is a child’s sewing machine made by the Morthan Company of Dorset, England, 1957. Apparently in this year Vulcan registered a patent for it’s famous trio of TSMs: the Minor, the Junior and the free arm Senior, all in cast aluminium. Sadly it no longer has the box or instructions but is quite charming. Can you imagine learning how to sew on this tiny machine!?

I’m always on the look out for vintage and second hand toys for Edward. I really love wooden toys and would prefer him to have quality vintage items to the mountains of plastic toys and games that we actually have. I was really excited to come across this vintage wooden toy scales. It needed a little tlc but after a quick sand, varnish and lick of paint it looks as good as new. I haven’t been brave enough to let Edward play with it yet as I know the wooden weights will soon disappear!

I’m enjoying the opportunity to share some of my favourite vintage finds with you all. I’ve had this vintage child’s chair for a while. I picked it up at a flea market on the Isle of Wight ages ago. However I just got it out as Edward is the right height to sit on it. Over the weekend I made a little cushion for him to sit on out of some vintage Superman curtains which I also picked up at a charity shop on the Isle of Wight. I’d been holding onto the fabric for years but thought it would…

Books and babies is the theme for this weeks’ Listography over at Kate Takes 5. I love to read and I really want Edward to enjoy it too. We have books all over the house and keep a box of his books in the lounge so he can pull them out and look through them any time of the day. The first book I bought for him was Faces (Baby’s Very First Book). It’s a simple cloth book with high-contrast images, crinkly pages and a mirror, designed to stimulate baby’s senses. Edward loved looking at this and we used it…

We spent a lovely weekend with my family on the Isle of Wight which is where I grew up. We managed to squeeze in a visit to the seaside town of Ventnor as well as a trip to the lovely beach at Ryde. Ventnor is full of charity shops and I bought 3 lovely vintage jigsaws for 10p which were a complete bargain. The pieces are large (perfect for chubby baby hands in a couple of years) and reminded me of a chunky wooden jigsaw my grandparents’ kept at their house which I often played with. I’m hoping to get…

Today I finished D-3 Jason’s Jacks using a lovely bright fabric from Aunty Cookie. We spent Easter on the Isle of Wight where I scoured the local charity shops and picked up some lovely vintage toys. The weather was bizarre, sometimes sunny and warm, but also windy with snow, sleet and hail. We braved Ryde seafront yesterday for a walk in the wind where we struggled to stay upright.
