When I was pregnant the magazines I read were full of expensive nursing chairs. I began to believe that I wouldn’t be truly happy as a mother if I didn’t have an expensive chair and matching footstool to rest my weary body on. Fortunately I found an antique Lloyd Loom nursing chair in need of some TLC at a recycling centre. It had been painted many times and the original cover was a little threadbare but I knew it would be perfect for our nursery. After some careful sanding, re-spraying and re-covering it now looks like this! I covered the…

A while ago I bought Edward a beanbag chair but he never looked very comfortable sitting on it. So over the weekend I refashioned the beanbag into a large cushion using some lovely alphabet fabric from my Cath Kidston stash! Much happier (honest!).

Today we all sat down to our first Sunday roast since Edward was born. As mentioned yesterday our roast chicken was eaten with roast potatoes, roast parsnips and yorkshire puddings from Aunt Bessie’s range. This was one of the easiest (and tastiest!) meals I have prepared in a long time and allowed me plenty of time to tweet my progress using the hashtag #hostaroast if you follow me on twitter. It was also really lovely to sit down in our dining room and not eat in front of the tv as we usually do. We also took the opportunity to…

Well it seems some lovely lucky ladies have recently been receiving flowers from a well established florists. Sadly I wasn’t one of them but I did receive a rather lovely bunch of flowers from my hubby as it’s our second wedding anniversary today. I also received this lovely Cath Kidston necklace which I have been coveting for a while. It’s called ‘make do and mend’ and features a mini sewing machine, cotton spool and scissors – I love it! I also received my Secret Post Club parcel – some choc, a lovely shopping bag and some cream!

Whilst pregnant I could not decide on a changing bag. I knew I needed one but I couldn’t find one I really liked or justify an Orla Kiely bag. I knew any bag would need to be spacious. I am a hoarder and on a good day I have carried nappies, wipes, nappy bags, bottles a formula dispenser, dummies toys, muslins, a spare change of clothes and bibs. I’ve also needed space for my things (oyster card, mobile, money and tissues). Don’t even ask me what I take out on a bad day… First I bought a gorgeous Cath Kidston…

I absolutely adore the badge blanket in the current Cath Kidston catalogue. I think it would be perfect to keep in the car and use when we’re out and about on picnics. However the £60 price tag is a bit steep for my mummy purse and I don’t think my husband would be pleased if I used the child benefit! So I’ve decided to make my own. I spent the last few weeks looking out for patches to sew on the blanket and have accumulated a great stash on vintage and new. Some of my favourites were picked up at…

Today we had a rare trip into the West End. We took the little one on his first trip to the British Museum followed by his first trips to Cath Kidston and Orla Kiely – my two favourite shops! I have a real passion for Orla Kiely. I drink out of Orla Kiely mugs, I sleep amongst Orla Kiely sheets, I use Orla Kiely handbags, and travel with my Orla Kiely suitcase, wash bag and make up bags! There’s only been one occasion when I rocked up at a hotel and realised I had a number of clashing Orla Kiely…

Last week I was lucky enough to win tickets to the first ever Vintage at Goodwood festival via a competition on the Tesco Clothing website! Vintage at Goodwood is a music and fashion led celebration of creative British cool from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s. I was VERY excited as I really wanted to go but couldn’t justify the cost with a new baby and being on maternity leave. Vintage at Goodwood Goodwood is in the middle of some beautiful countryside and after we parked up and made our way to the site we were greeted with a…

Yesterday I popped into the Cath Kidston shop in Covent Garden. I’d spotted some goodies in the latest catalogue that I wanted, especially the tin of travel sweets – perfect for our long drive to Cornwall tomorrow. I also picked up laundry and shoe bags and a pillowcase featuring planes which I’m hoping to make into a laundry bag for Edward. Watch this space!
