My 5 year old daughter *loves* pirates. She dresses up as a pirate, she acts like a pirate and talks like a pirate. I blame all those episodes of Captain Jake and the Neverland Pirates she used to watch before she started in Reception. I knew she would love to see a copy of Pirates: Dead Men’s Tales, a new title from Carlton Kids.
Pirates: Dead Men’s Tales is a lovely book containing facts, maps and true stories about life on the high seas. It is aimed at children aged 9 and over but we always read together at bedtime and this has been a really fun book to read.
In Pirates: Dead Men’s Tales, you can explore pirates throughout history and across the globe. You come face-to-face with some of the most villainous and scurrilous rogues ever to sail the Seven Seas. Included are the notorious Blackbeard, who terrorised the Caribbean and the Atlantic seaboard of America until he met his end in a dramatic shoot-out; and Captain Kidd, who might be the unluckiest pirate of all time, and whose legendary treasure is still sought after.
Lavish hand-drawn illustrations bring the real life stories of legendary pirate-rogues to life. With in-depth pirate profiles and highly visual maps which help explore all the incredible details of life as a pirate on the high seas.
This is a great non-fiction book and one which I know we will treasure. Little Sis can’t believe pirates were real people but this book definitely helps take them from fiction to fact. The tales may be unbelievable but there are plenty of facts to be read and discussed. We especially loved the maps and illustrations.
Pirates: Dead Men’s Tales by Carlton Kids, is priced £14.99 and perfect for ages 9 and over. It is published on May 4th 2017.
