The Quality Chop House – London I have to write a quick post about this place. We went there for dinner after I forced my boyfriend to help me with some research at The Family Records Centre (which he didn’t really enjoy!). The food was brilliant, as was the service and the wine. Go there!

I made the mistake of channel hopping to see if anything was happening and it is. This is what I like to see, the police doing their job. I spent the first day of my holiday cleaning the flat. Not very exciting you may think (and you would be right). However, my boyfriend lent the hoover to a friend and it wasn’t returned for three months! So there was plenty of dirt to hoover up. I was thinking of going out today (honest) but now there’s no need, I can watch ‘Breaking News’ from the comfort of the sofa.

Yippee, my holiday from work has officially started, I now have 11 days until I have to get back on public transport. My holiday has grown to epic proportions in my mind for some reason. Not that my job is stressful or hard but I am looking forward to having a break. I have to complain about my boyfriend. I know I’ve said he’s lovely, but he reads my blog and quotes it back to me! That’s the problem with him being the technical side of the relationship, he knows all my passwords and nothing is sacred anymore, not even…

I have had such a lovely weekend, I almost managed to get away without leaving the flat today. I spent most of the day scanning: photographs, certificates and bits of ephemera. My lovely boyfriend photographed all my medals, buttons and other bits and pieces. I also put a few more people into my family tree, the total now is 242 ! He has been working on getting flikr to talk directly to my website so every time the gedcom file is uploaded it won’t mess up the file path for the images. Hopefully I will see all his efforts working…

Today I’ve been mainly sleeping. Two weeks of worrying about how to get to and from work safely have taken their toll and I’m absolutely knackered. I’ve been thinking how nice it would be to be a Victorian lady. I would wear lovely clothes, a corset and have strange hair dos. More importantly, I’d be so well off I wouldn’t need to go to work in the City, I wouldn’t need to get the tube either, ever. I would spend my days having my friends round for tea in the morning, and in the afternoon I would do fancy embroidery…

Another day of learning to live in the new London. I should explain my selfish reasons for wanting a blog. It’s because I don’t want my life to be reduced to a photograph in the Evening Standard or at the end of the evening News because I’m not here anymore. I’m a person, not a great one, but still, I have a boyfriend, family, friends and hopes, dreams and aspirations. If anything happens I want to be remembered. I’m trying to persuade my boyfriend to move somewhere safe. But as my mum pointed out last night, animal rights activists set…

My name is gingerbreadhouse, I work in the City for the best known NGO in the world and I live in leafy Norf London with my boyfriend. I’m obsessed with News 24. The idea behind this is to keep a record of my research, exciting finds (for me anyway!) and things to remember and go back to at a later date.
