In case you haven’t guessed I have boxes of vintage treasures picked up from car boot sales, jumble sales and charity shops. I *try* to have a project in mind before buying anything as we are rather pressed for space in our little terraced house. How to make a clock from a vintage tin One of my favourite collections is vintage tins of all shapes and sizes. These were the first thing I collected and I can’t resist picking up unusual ones when I see them. My latest project used one of the vintage tins found beneath our stairs which…

I often find bath times can be quite stressful with two children. Lately I’ve been putting the baby in her bath in the big bath with the toddler. This way they both have a bath and seem to enjoy each others’ company. The baby loves kicking her feet and splashing and the toddler loves playing with water. It sounds like it should be fun but it’s not for me. I seem to constantly tell the toddler to sit down, be careful, don’t splash and other boring parenting phrases. To bring back some fun we’ve been trying some new baby bath…

No trip to Devon is complete without a visit to the market town of Newton Abbot. If we ever have a decent stay in Devon I always persaude my husband to take us there. Last year I found a vintage toy London bus which is my favourite ever find. My husband loves going to a model shop and we usually have tea and cakes in the delightful Pharmacy on Queen Street. As the name suggests the tea room is in an old pharmacy which retains all the original shop fittings. They always have an amazing range of cakes which I…

Time again for the PinAddicts Pinterest Challenge. The idea is to choose something from your Pinterest boards to create and link up each month. We’re having a bit of a Lego obsession at the moment so I thought I would try some Lego cupcakes inspired by a photo on my Pinterest Lego Love board. Follow Jenny Makes’s board Lego love! on Pinterest. My version is a lot simpler! My sister and niece are staying this weekend so I wanted something that looked good but didn’t take too long so I used ready made cupcakes and Renshaw’s Limited Edition Great British…

The other day we went to Westfield Stratford. I love that place as, although I’m not a big shopper, I love the fact that I can visit John Lewis, Waitrose and Lakeland all under one roof. There’s also plenty of places to eat, a fab viewing platform over the Olympic site, a pop-up Cath Kidston store and the baby changing/feeding rooms are a genius idea. As I’ve mentioned before the toddler has really taken to Lego Duplo. He has enough sets that he can build houses and generally let his little imagination flow. My husband and I are both Lego…

One of my favourite press cuttings, yes I’m old, is of me and my school friends with a card we made and sent to Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer when they got married in 1981. Hey, we got our picture in the paper, my first taste of ‘fame’! Also in the family archive is a photograph of me and my sister sitting on the front wall of our old house. The wall had been painted for the Queen’s Jubilee in 1977 and my mum had stuck a poster up in the front window for the Royal Wedding. We were…

I would like to think that having one child makes me an expert but in the couple of months between the toddler and baby I seem to have forgotten all the important stuff! Little Sis is now 6 months old and she’s hungry for more than milk. The only problem is I seem to have lost my confidence with weaning. At 18 weeks I started her on a spoonful of baby rice which she clearly hated. We quickly moved on to ready made purees in pouches which she demolishes. I have to admit that the toddler takes a lot of…

I’ve seen a couple of cross stitch pendants and thought they looked fun to stitch. The only place I could find them was from the workroom, a Canadian sewing shop, so I duly ordered a couple and waited for them to arrive. I was really pleased with the laser cut cross stitch pendants, both wooden, one with a scalloped edge and one circular, which measure just over 2″. I wanted to stitch something to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee so I found some free Jubilee motifs from CrossStitcher. The motifs included a union flag (which I stitched for the God…
