We’ve had a lot of fun with the theme of Chinese New Year over the last few weeks. We love exploring other cultures and I find there’s usually a learning opportunity for the whole family! This year Chinese New Year falls on Thursday 19th of February and we’ve made some really fun crafts, such as our Chinese lantern sun catcher and Chinese New Year Year of the Sheep sun catcher. This year I’d love to try some Chinese cooking. My family love trying new foods so I think it could be fun for everyone, I just don’t know where to…

Monday again, where did the weekend go? – I’ve been having a huge de-clutter and tidy which is ongoing and never ending. During the week I finished tidying our bedroom. You can finally see the floor and it feels like a lovely place to fall asleep – the Tempur mattress probably helps 🙂 Over the weekend I managed to read 4 years’ worth of Mollie Makes magazine. I took out any projects I want to make and have stored all the free cover gifts in a box – I think I’ve only ever made one! This has given me a…

We are so excited about Big Hero 6. As a family we love to watch films and we loved Big Hero 6 on the big screen. Big Hero 6 is the story of Hiro and Baymax, set in the fictional city of Sanfransokyo (a mashup of San Francisco and Tokyo). The film is inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The film tells the story of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada, Baymax (a personal healthcare robot) and a group of friends from nerd school who form a superhero team to combat a masked villain. …

There’s something about January that makes me want to stay in and hibernate with some sewing. It’s been so cold that I’ve been quite happy to spend my evenings working on my Union flag quilt – a gift for my 3 year old – hopefully before she leaves home. I’ve seen real progress with it this month and it’s grown quite a lot. I’ve also incorporated some fabrics from her old baby clothes so it’s turning into a real heirloom piece which I hope she will treasure. You can’t really see the scale of it from a photograph but each…

Last year we bought my daughter a play kitchen. It’s one of her favourite toys and has led to some really fun play times. She prepares her play food, makes us meals, organises tea parties for her dolls and sets up shop too. This was a really great purchase! Today it’s raining (again!) so I thought it would be fun to make our own food. We’ve made felt food before but I wanted to try and use some products from our recycling box so we made cardboard cookies. Materials for cardboard cookies: recycled cardboard, brown if possible cookie cutters white…

It has taken me a while to sort our living room out after the festive period. Would you believe I’m still finding Christmas decorations and have a big box of things to go back up in the loft this weekend? This week we finally watched the Advent candles burn down too. We had lit them a couple of times during December but they still had a good few hours left in them. This week I also took down the children’s New Year decorations, I just needed to reclaim a little space for me. If you saw the rest of the…

We love crafting with tape. We have a huge bowl of colourful tape and have made some fun things such as a washi tape egg decorations, washi tape picture frames and Duck Tape bracelets. We’ve even made our own washi tape. Today we thought we’d use tape in a completely different and sensory way – masking tape resist art. Paintings and drawings have positive and negative spaces, the positive is where you have added the colour, the negative spaces are plain. We thought we would use the tape to create some interesting art and my children had great fun. Materials:…

My one luxury in life (apart from a good cup of tea) is my subscription to Reloved magazine. I love to recycle and upcycle and this is a great read, packed full of inspiration. I’ve been looking for some ideas for our living room. 2015 is the year it will be decorated and I was excited to read an article about warehouse style. Warehouse style fits really well with our vintage home vibe. We have some key pieces of furniture which will be staying, such as my beloved vintage kitchen cupboard which houses my fabric stash. There are some lovely…

It’s that time of the week for my Monday happy list: – I was given 48 hours notice to dress my 3 year old as a Superhero for nursery and I managed to make her a Supergirl costume thanks to some clever upcycling of the ladybird costume I made last year. Phew. – We baked a yummy Victoria Sponge with rainbow sprinkles. Amazingly there is still some left. – I read ‘The French for Christmas‘ by Fional Valpy, my latest book from the Bahlsen Book Club and published by Bookouture. The French for Christmas is part of a series of…
