This year I’ll be celebrating my second Mother’s Day with my little family. I’m totally immersed in my little bubble of motherhood and enjoy every second, well, most of the time.
My toddler has always made lots of noise but the one word I really wanted to hear was “mummy”. His first word was “daddy”, quickly followed by “nanny” and more and more words, none of which were “mummy”. Of course, when he did finally get round to saying it he didn’t stop! He often calls out “mummy”, especially when I’m not in the room, and will laugh when I shout out his name in reply – not sure he’s understood the concept of names yet! He also has a funny little habit of saying “mummydaddynuala” in quick succession, especially when he’s been to nursery. I like to think that he’s missed us and is reminding himself that we’re all still there.
I think mummy is the loveliest word he can say and wear it with pride, like a badge, along with my other labels of daughter, sister, wife and friend.
This year Mother’s Day falls on my son’s birthday so it will be a double celebration for us.
