In honour of mothers

I’m looking forward to celebrating (is that the right word?) my first Mothers’ Day on Sunday. In honour of the day I thought I’d post a pic of me with my mum. I think the photograph was taken on the day of my Christening in 1977/78.  I still have the little outfit I’m wearing but I’m glad I haven’t seen the hideous coat and hat my mum is wearing in a long time.

I would love to have Edward christened at the church we got married in some day. I think we’ve left it a little late as I could imagine how indignant he would be if anyone tried to pour water on his head!

  1. Your first Mother’s Day – that is quite a milestone….My 3 year old has just asked me “Why are you so happy?” because I am smiling whilst typing this – happy memories!

Having your son christened in the church you were married in would be so special. I never managed that but would have loved to. My mother in law had this crazy theory that when they cried as the water was being poured on their little heads it was “letting the devil out”?!!

Anyway, I’m loving the 70s photo – priceless – and I am now inspired to go and find some of my own.

  2. Happy first Mothers Day! Its lovely that you want your Son christened in the same church you were married in. I was Christened in the same church my Mum & Dad were married it and it is a lovely connection to have growing up. Fab photo of you & your Mum x

  3. I love it! What a wonderful post to honour motherhood! Fabulous..have a wonderful Sunday lovely! 😉 Thanks so much for joining in on Flashback Friday again.

    🙂 Karin

  4. Happy 1st Mother’s Day. I hope you have a fabulous time and when you do get your little one christened choose a wicked hat in honour of your mum 😀 Dare you!

  5. J was about 7 months or so when he was christened and boy oh boy did he scream that church down! The other baby being christened was silent and then there was my screaming wailing banshee of a child! But I am glad I did it and in the church I had always attended throughout school etc! If you want to do it, go for it! Its NEVER too late 🙂

  6. Fab – the first Mothers Day is a lovely one – suddenly it takes on a whole new meaning.
And I don’t think your Mum’s coat is THAT bad… (we’ll not mention The Hat).

  7. What a great picture! I keep meaning to join in Flashback Friday some time but I really need to get all the old photos over from England to contribute properly.
We’re getting Baby O christened in June, when he’ll be 13 months old – eek! I think we could have some struggling on the day when the priest comes at him with the water…

  8. Happy 1st Mother’s Day. I’m glad you had a great one. I don’t think you’ve left it too late to get your baby christened. It is a lovely way to celebrate them!
