Last week we ventured to our first Antiques Fair, literally on our doorstep at Alexandra Palace. Every year we’ve seen it advertised but this year we were able to go. The entrance was a reasonable £5 which gave you access to the beautiful building and about 350 antiques sellers and their stalls. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the antiques, which were all 20th century. I saw so many items I would have loved to have bought, lots of sewing notions, childrens’ toys, ceramics, art, books and some beautiful items of furniture.
We were both very restrained due to lack of space more than anything but I did come away with this vintage Dairy Crest glass milk bottle, advertising Weetabix. As soon as we saw it we knew we had to have it as Edward loves his Weetabix and can’t start his day without a couple. I’ve been trying to find a date for it but no luck yet.
My other half bought Edward a lovely vintage book of trains as he’s addicted to Chuggington. I think my husband is hoping to encourage a love of all types of trains so we can go and visit more steam railways!
I would definitely recommend the Alexandra Palace Antiques Fair. It was busy but there was lots to see and we were able to have a good look round despite having Edward and the pushchair. There was one heart-stopping moment when Edward grabbed the corner of a tablecloth laden with antiques. I’m not sure who jumped quicker, me, my husband or the stall holder, but fortunately we didn’t have to pay for a table full of smashed antiques!

I love those advertising bottles, that will be cute to have on the breakfast table (especially when Homes & Antiques comes round to do a shoot!)

September 26, 2011 at 8:48 pmI love that bottle totally and absolutely.
I remember going to Alexandra Palace with a friend from college when she was at Bar school. We had a lovely day and went to a lovely Italian restaurant nearby. We talked about how we would love to have children one day. Little did we know a few years later she would become a nun in an enclosed order. So happy memories of a day when I could have my friend all to myself.
Perhaps Weetabix company would be interested and could tell you more about your bottle.
Yes, all Dads do that with the train thing methinks
