Last week we were fortunate to spend a couple of days away at my favourite charity shop stomping ground. There were lots of bargains to be had. We had our first visit to a carboot sale in years (mainly because they start too early in the morning for my husband!) which was a lucky accident. Amongst the bargains I picked up some toys for Edward and a lovely footstool. I’ve been on the lookout for a footstool for ages.
The seller told me the stool was Victorian with an original cover but I’m not so sure. The veneer is a little chipped and the cover is definitely recent so I am glad I bargained over the price! I’d love to make my own cover for it, perhaps with a bit of Cath Kidston inspiration.
When I took the stool apart 
found it quite obvious just how recent the cover was as there was a handwritten message written on the wood. I shall be trying not to feel guilty when I remove it!
I also fell in love with a number of vintage flanelette children’s nighties in a charity shop whilst I was away. There were a few on the rails but I just picked two as I’m not quite sure what I”m going to do with them! They have been embroidered with animals and are just so sweet. I was thinking of re-using the flanelette into a comforter for the Second Baby as it is so soft.
My final find was a spool of vintage ribbon. The local Red Cross shop has set up a special haberdashery area full of wool and patterns, whilst the buttons and notions have all been expensively re-packaged. I couldn’t resist this red ribbon, definitely too good to use!

That was a bit naughty of him telling you it was the original cover!! But at least you can replace the cover without feeling guilty!! sounds like you found some good bargains!!
Vintage ribbon, that is indeed very nice! Surely, it would be good to use.
ooh I like the cover. maybe you could make it into something else or pop it in a hoop. It’s a great little stool, I’m sure it will be even lovelier with a revamp.

Loving that little foot stool, should look gorgeous with a bit of Cath on it. I’m always so stoked when I find haberdashery items in charity shops as they’re always so expensive elsewhere, great finds and I look forward to the transformation of the foot stool soon! 🙂
Honestly, some people are so full of crap aren’t they? I’ve been sold a ‘vintage’ dress which on closer inspection at home I’m pretty sure was modern. It’s a nice stool though, and vintage ribbon is always special.
The footstool is great! It might be worth a look in the Cath Kidston ‘Stitch!’ book to see if there’s a suitable design or something you could adapt.

It’s a lovely footstool – and so much the better for not being fooled 🙂 I love the vintage ribbon too. I always struggle to cut into vintage haberdashery so I have a large collection of things I could use, but never do…
