I was reading the latest issue of Mother & Baby and there was an intriguing article about Elimination Communication. Basically it means not using nappies and just knowing when your child needs the toilet. Despite being a stay at home mum I just can’t imagine having the time to do this on top of everything else. Sorry but I love nappies – reuseable and disposable – I’m happy to use both on my children, but they will wear nappies until they’re potty trained!
We were sent the latest bumGenius freetime to review. You may remember some time go we tried the bumGenius v4 which we loved, the bumGenius freetime is the latest version of this great brand.
Features include:
- accessible, replaceable elastic
- overlap attached inserts to adjust absorbency
- gentle elastic prevents leakage
- soft stay-dry inserts and lining keep moisture away
- extra layer of microfibre terry sewn into the shell
- adjusts to fit babies from 8-35
This has to be one of the simplest reuseable nappies to use – adjust to fit your baby and away you go. The two inserts mean you don’t have to worry about absorbency and as they are attached to the nappy they don’t come loose in the washing machine. I find the bumGenius always wash well and I love the range of colours. We’ve been trying the dazzle which is a rich plum colour and looks great on my little one. I love this new version and can’t wait to watch it grow with my daughter.

I can’t be faffed with E.C. Frankly, I am far too busy to stand around watching for my son’s poo face. Hooray for nappies!

March 27, 2012 at 2:59 pmWe’ve done EC with our son since birth. Had about 12 poopy diapers, over all, during the crawling milestone. At 18.5 months, he signals 95% of the time and we catch about that amount. He’s running to the potty, sitting on his own, etc. I feel like it’s made me a more present parent. I am a WAHM (I actually authored a book on EC called EC Simplified and maintain a forum and website on the topic), so not full-time mothering per se, and have ECed with the help of Papa and caregivers along the way…so it’s possible if you’re not a SAHM. I’ve gotta say that it was easier for me than changing endless diapers, and we’ve connected so much more, because of EC. We did use a variety of cloth diapers along the way and they have been so very helpful. I think 27.4 billion diapers buried in US landfills every year is already too much as it is!
