Since my son was only 2 weeks old he developed eczema on his face and body. At first I wasn’t too worried and tried to keep his skin moisturised with olive oil. I only washed him in cooled boiled water without soap and washed his clothes separately with non-bio detergent. However, within 6 weeks the patches got bigger and itchier.
I made a appointment at our local health centre and we were given a huge bottle of E45 to liberally apply. We discussed possible triggers to the eczema such as allergies to our cats, the washing powder we used or any soaps we washed him with.
A couple of weeks later we had a sleepless night as my son couldn’t sleep due to his itchy skin and was crying in pain. We got an appointment straight away the next day and we were given a prescription for Aqueous Cream BP and Fucidin H cream which contained steroids and could only be used for 5 days due to its strength.
When we stopped using the Fucidin H cream the ezcema came back as bad as before and spread over his back and behind his ears. So we made another appointment and were given DiproBase cream and Oilatum to add to the bath water. These have been completely ineffective.
We bought him a grobag baby sleep bag which is meant to stop scratching his eczema but it didn’t help. I don’t know what to do next so I’m going to try and get a referral to get him allergy tested. I hate to see his skin so raw and I can’t stop him scratching his chest all day! Help!!
