Dog's Trust Harefield

A visit to the Dog’s Trust Harefield {exploring the local area}

Posted on May 13, 2017June 27, 2021 by jenny

Living on the outskirts of London we’re lucky to have so much on our doorstep. A quick hop on the tube gets us into London, or we can take off in the car to the country. We’ve mused about having a dog for a few years now but it just doesn’t seem practical. So instead we visit the Dog’s Trust Harefield, which is only about 10 minutes away.

The Dog’s Trust Harefield is an animal centre belonging to the Dog’s Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity which aims to help abandoned dogs. Their Harefield Centre is one of 20 re-homing centres around the country, set within 16 acres of farmland and home to seventy five purpose built kennels. It’s a really lovely centre and the perfect place to visit if you like dogs!

If you sign in at Reception you can walk around some of the kennels to visit the dogs which need re-homing. They have lots of space to run and play, and there are always plenty of volunteers to play with them. As well as the re-homing part, there is a second-hand book shop, a lovely cafe and shop, where every purchase helps support the work of the Dog’s Trust. Don’t forget if you visit you can bring in donations for the book shop, as well as toys and blankets for the dogs.

My children love to visit the dogs and we always feel a little sad if we see the same dog twice. The Dog’s Trust do a great job re-homing them, hopefully one day we will be able to take one home.

Dog's Trust Harefield

On the 4th June the Dogs Trust Harefield is holding it’s annual Fun Day. We’ve been for the past few years and it’s a really great day out for the family with an all day Fun Dog Show, a Doggy Game Zone, agility course, animal charity stalls, children’s fun area as well as food and drinks.

    Aww this is a lovely idea for a place to take your little ones, but I would be sad if I saw the same dog twice too! 🙁

    We often used to visit our local dog rescue centre as children, it taught us a lot about becoming pet owners as adults. A great cause.

    What a lovely way to spend the day if you don’t have your own dog 😊 It’s a shame I’m not nearer, I’d love to go to the fun day!

    Thank you so much for bringing awareness to this place!
    I so wish people would only go to rescue centres to get their animals.

    Fabulous post darling.

    Aww this is a lovely idea for people who maybe want a dog but don’t have time or space to commit to one. Visiting a place like this would be dangerous for me, I love my two dogs far too much and I’d easily be trying to fill my car with some more to rehome!
