D.I.Y. Dollshouse by Alexia Henrion

I love receiving happy mail and was delighted to receive a small parcel containing a copy of D.I.Y. Dollshouse. I wasn’t sure if it was for me or my children but we’ve all been enjoying reading it.

D.I.Y. Dollshouse: Build and Decorate a Toy House Using Everyday Materials is a lavishly illustrated guide for budding architects, builders, and designers, showing them how to build and furnish their own eco-friendly dollhouse using only items found around the house or available for free.

Author Alexia Henrion has created a fun-filled book that is all about recycling, re-using and re-purposing. She provides simple instructions that cover everything children (and parents) need to get started, from making rooms our of crate boxes and pieces of scrap fabric to crafting countless furniture and household items using recycled materials, such as empty plastic containers and bottles, bottle caps, cardboard boxes, plastic trays, drinking straws, and more.

With D.I.Y. Dollshouse, young crafters will learn how to transform these easy-to-find household items into a sofa, bunk bed, desk chair, refrigerator, stove, bucket, and mop, or even a box tub for a rooftop garden. There are 8 chapters: House, Living Room, Bathroom, Teenager’s Bedroom, Children’s Bedroom, Kitchen, Bedroom and Patio. The photographs of finished interiors are sure to inspire more ideas and keep crafty children (and their parents!) busy for days on end. We’ve been busy saving up our boxes so we can get started building our own D.I.Y. dollshouse.

D.I.Y. Dollshouse: Build and Decorate a Toy House Using Everyday Materials by Alexia Henrion is out now in paperback, published by Princeton Architectural Press.

I always wanted a dollhouse as a child, but never had one. I might have to remedy this as an adult – this sounds like a handy book to guide me!
