Cross stitch Valentine card

For some reason I decided I wasn’t busy enough and challenged myself to try 10 different craft projects this year. I’m really bad at falling in love with a picture in a magazine, buying supplies and never getting round to making it. No more! This year I am working my way through my stash of projects and trying really, really hard to not buy craft books, fabric or anything else. I’ll admit I’ve failed terribly at this and have some amazing craft books to tell you about 🙂

Anyway, so far I’ve tried my hand at applique houses which was fun and might make it into a little lap quilt. I’ve also made a cross stitch Valentine card. The technique has the unfortunate name of prick and stitch which made me giggle!

I googled for a free Valentine pattern which I printed off onto card. I then made a hole with a needle on each dot before cross stitching the design. When I had completed it I cut a window in a blank greeting card to frame and send it. What do you think?

Before you start to cross stitch have a photo copy of the black and white chart made and when you finish a session of sewing mark on the photo copy where you are up to. If using this method, it is recommended you use a pencil to mark the spot and before you start cross stitching again, erase the pencil mark from the photo copy so you can re-mark it when you finish that particular sewing session. If using a pen for this purpose, if you are not careful your photo copy will eventually become extremely untidy with a series of crosses or marks and there is the possibility that you will not know which mark to use!
