Winter has at last arrived and when I ventured out today I was well and truly buffeted by Storm Barney. I admit to having a small obsession with the weather and the Shipping Forecast and love to make my home cosy and warm at this time of year.
I’ve written a little about taking more care of myself this year. I’ve joined a choir so I can indulge one of my passions, I love my adult colouring books and am working my way through every gingerbread recipe book I own, all in the pursuit of create hygge in the home. Have you heard of the Danish concept of hygge, pronounced hoo-ga? There is no direct translation but it often taken to mean cosiness through the winter months.
I’m a huge candle addict so was delighted to receive some gorgeous products from House of Fraser. Candles, diffusers and fairy lights are the perfect way to create hygge at home! As we spend more time at home in the winter, and have the doors and windows open less, I notice that cooking and children smells seem to linger for longer. Candles are perfect for making the house smell lovely. Even my husband, who never notices this kind of thing, remarked how great and cosy the house was when he came home from work today!
Over the last few weeks I have changed the furnishing in our living room. I have got different cushions out, some of my homemade quilts to snuggle under. I have the fairy lights up over the mantle, as well as the candles and diffusers. I’ve also made a few of our secret family recipe special hot chocolate with added marshmallows and grated chocolate!
House of Fraser have a selection of fragrances to choose from including White Christmas, Cinnamon & Ginger and Winter Berries. I opted for the Linea Cinnamon & Ginger range and received a wonderful Botanical Candle and Diffuser, they also have a Jar Candle in each range.
I’ve had a couple of diffuser’s in the past and this is a lovely one, reminiscent of home baking with warm winter spices, cinnamon, ginger and clove indulged in layers of creamy vanilla and traditional candied fruits.
The candle has a burn time of 60 hours. It combines cranberry, cherry and blackcurrant laced with citrus and sweet spice highlights. I’m still admiring just the look of it but I look forward to lighting it soon.
The diffuser has a RRP £20.00 and the candle a RRP £16.00 but both are currently on offer. I think they make a lovely gift but why not treat yourself too!
