book review Kids crafts tutorial What I'm reading

Here come the girls

I love to hand sew, I love to make things for my children and it’s the perfect hobby for giving my brain a rest from blogging. As soon as I saw Crafty Dolls by Jane Bull I thought of Little Sis. She loves her dolls and she loves it when I make things for her and I really hope she will be interested in making things like this soon.

Crafty Dolls, the latest in Jane Bull’s successful craft series, shoes you how to create your own adorable doll collection at home.

Crafty Dolls by Jane Bull

You can choose from more than 30 knitted and sewn variations, from a fairy ballerina and superhero to a topsy-turvy Cinderella and tiny pocket dolls. Accessories include handbags, hats, and shoes.

Knitting patterns, sewing templates, and straightforward instructions are all included, so you can enjoy making your own creations with ease.

I have to admit I haven’t quite mastered the art of knitting but there is plenty to keep me busy in this book. It is divided into 4 sections – Lottie rag dolls, Woolly dolls, Dolly mixture and Know-how. The Lottie dolls are really sweet and the illustrations are really-well set out and easy to follow in simple steps. I like the fact the dolls are customisable and once you have mastered the basic doll you can add your own touch.

The patterns are fun and I think we will be making a Lottie with a little Lottie and even littler Lottie doll. These will be a great addition for Little Sis and her numerous doll beds.

There are plenty of ideas for boys too. Lottie has two brothers, there are also glove people, knitted superheroes  and lots of ideas for creating your own characters based on your drawings. There’s a handy section at the end which covers basic stitches so this would make an ideal gift for a little crafty person.

Crafty Dolls by Jane Bull is published by DK priced £12.99
