Have you seen the new crafts magazine for girls called Ruby Loves? Ruby Loves* comes out monthly and includes materials to make the items featured in the issue, online content which is unlocked with a secret code, prizes and much more.
Everything is contained in a paper bag and we were very impressed when we opened it as it contained the magazine, lots of craft materials and the special code to use online which gave access to extra templates, patterns, crafts and lots more goodies. We’ve all had a good read of the magazine which is bright and colourful with plenty of pictures.
We have already used the cookie cutter to bake star biscuits and I love the fact it can also be used as a template for a paper garland. The projects include a kitten key-ring, sparkly ring, mini shopper, star cookie pops and pretty cards. A couple of other projects are also included which use materials you will probably have at home so after the initial purchase price (currently £4.99) you shouldn’t need to spend much more.
We found that the instructions are well laid out and easy to follow. The projects are easy to customise according to your skill level. If you want to use the templates in the magazine you’ll have to photocopy them before cutting them out as they are printed back to back, you can also print them from the website using your online code for access. I thought the fabric felt a little cheap, especially the felt for the kitten, but it would be easy to pick up a sheet of felt from a craft shop or online.
The magazine is aimed at 8-12 year olds which means my children are a little young for it but still we all enjoyed it. We buy magazines every week and always finish the colouring and craft pages first so it was great to read a proper craft magazine. Although it is aimed at girls I think it appeals to boys as well. I guarantee that my 8 year old niece will absolutely adore it and we’ll be saving some of the projects for her next visit!
