When you welcome new life into your home, it’s incredibly important to ensure that your home is properly prepared. The floor is where your children will spend a majority of their early years as they crawl and then learn to walk, so it’s vital you choose the right one. Our guide is going to take you through the best options for you, not just for your children but for your pockets as well.
Child-friendly floors for a family home
The first we’re going to look at is the most pricey option, but best looking, hardwood. Solid and engineered wood floorings look fantastic and are technically very good, and have excellent levels of durability and are a long term solution for your home. Engineered wood flooring in particularly durable due to its layered makeup, it’s also slightly softer underfoot. We’d recommend if you do decide to invest in hardwood that you buy a carpet or rug, just to ensure your child is absolutely safe!
The next option is vinyl tiles, vinyl is soft underfoot and one of the safest floorings on the market for families. Vinyl is the best alternative available for real wood, and is equally as effective and looks just as good. It’s ideal for bathroom and kitchen areas due to its excellent levels of water resistance, and spillages are also incredibly easy to clean up in case your child has an accident! There is a wide range of designs available too.
The final option is laminate, certainly the most cost effective option available, but equally as reliable as the more expensive floorings on the market. It has excellent scratch resistance so won’t be too damaged by your children dropping their toys. It has excellent durability due to its layered makeup, meaning it has strength to its core. It also comes with the easiest fitting process on the market, click-loc, which as the name suggests simply clicks into place.
We hope our guide has helped you find the best flooring for your family home! It’s incredibly important to make sure you pick the right flooring, and it really does ultimately come down to personal choice!

November 10, 2017 at 7:04 pmWe have a mix of flooring in our house and I much prefer the easier cleaned options. Safety wise I would have hated my kitchen/snug tiles when the twins were tiny it wouldn’t have been very safe for crawling etc x

November 11, 2017 at 8:50 amWe had an oak floor in our last home (downstairs), but our new home is carpeted throughout (except the bathroom). It’s so tough to keep clean when you have kids and I’ve been thinking of making a change. This guide is helpful, thanks!
