Ever since our little boat holiday I have been working towards making my own quilt. I made my first quilt when I was 16, for my first serious boyfriend who was off to Uni. When we split up I didn’t think it was polite to ask for it back. Fast forward 14 years (oh I feel old) and it’s time to make another quilt and keep it. So I’ve been paper piecing my octagons and going through my stash of fabrics. I don’t think this is going to be a quick project but hopefully posting about it will give me…

It’s been a strange week since we’ve returned from our holiday. I’ve had to spend three days at home as we’ve had a garden makeover this week. So I’ve read more and crafted more. Today I made my first doll quilt and it was so much harder than I thought it would be! Don’t look too closely at the picture or else you’ll see all the mistakes. I used some of the vintage fabrics I picked up on holiday, as well as some favourite Cath Kidston ones. I think I need to be a bit more adventurous with my choice…

I’ve had a great Bank Holiday weekend, just the right amount of seeing friends, DIY and doing cool new stuff. We went to Walthamstow Stadium on Saturday night to watch the Greyhound racing. It was so much fun and I even broke even! We also finally had the time to do the Parkland Walk from Finsbury Park to Ally Pally. It was such a hot day we had to make some emergency refreshment breaks along the way at the Boogaloo in Highgate and the Village in Muswell Hill. And today I made my first item in my lovely new sewing…

I was lucky enough to test this pattern a couple of months ago. The pattern was really easy to understand and took a couple of hours to make from scratch. I used some of my favourite Cath Kidston fabric for the body. Buy them here.

I’ve seen lots of hearts covered in buttons so tried making one myself. I used a new felt which was lovely to sew with and lots of buttons from my stash.

New friend for Mallory panda Originally uploaded by Jennifer Young. I made a little friend for Mallory but he has no mouth so looks slightly scary. Oh well, better luck next time round. I’m really enjoying sewing. I haven’t sewn in years but there’s so much inspiration on the web and through reading blogs, it makes you want to be creative 🙂

My Mini-Moopy Bunny I found this mini moopy pattern on a lovely blog by Carly and couldn’t wait to try it out. I’ve used some spare Orla Kiely and Cath Kidston fabric. Not bad for a first attempt 🙂 My resolutions for 2007 include trying to make more things to decorate our new home. I bought The Crafter’s Companion over the weekend and am looking forward to trying some of the patterns out! Originally uploaded by Jennifer Young.
