Buying shoes scares me. I’ve never enjoyed shoe shopping and I’m terrified of buying shoes for Edward in case I damage his feet. Fortunately Clarks asked me if we would like to experience their shoe fitting service and we were very happy to oblige. After the rain cleared yesterday we made our way to our local Clarks in Muswell Hill where we were met by a very friendly fitter. Edward was very shy but was given a copy of the Clarks magazine which he looked through whilst I chatted to the shoe fitter about Edward’s feet. He measured Edward’s feet…

When Edward saw a large cardboard box in the living room one morning he clearly thought it was Christmas. He was very excited and tried to rip the box open and was a bit put out when I said we had to wait for daddy to come downstairs. (Note to self – make sure any Christmas presents are already assembled before he gets to them!) When daddy was finally ready we opened the box which contained a beautiful wooden baby walker, the tray containing different shapes and sizes of wooden blocks. The walker was really simple to put together and…

Edward loves playing with his sand pit and water table. I have hundreds of photographs of him enjoying playing in our garden. Quite often he will go through several changes of clothes a day at my insistence (he couldn’t care less about being sandy or wet!). The lovely people at Bigjigs sent Edward a bucket and pump set which made his day. The set contains everything needed to build fantastic castles, including a bucket, spade and sand mould, as well as a water pump and wheel. Perfect for use in the garden, on the beach or at the local sandpit.…

I have a bit of a thing about changing bags. It might be something to do with having a boy but I feel a changing bag can brighten up our day as the buggy is black and let’s face it, my son doesn’t do pink. Pink Lining asked me if I would be interested in reviewing their latest product – the mum on the run pouch. Pink Lining Mum on The Run pouch The pouch arrived in a lovely Pink Lining branded box and wrapped in pink tissue paper. I love the fact that although it’s a practical item a…

We’re big fans of organic and were really pleased to hear that Organix has won the Baby, Infant and Children Food award at the Soil Association Organic Food Awards, with its Organic Apple & Strawberry / Apple & Peach Dual.We try to give Edward as much organic food as we can and always have a store of Organix fruit purees in the cupboard. He’s been feeding himself for the last few months and he enjoys these little pots of organic goodness. You can tell that he has to concentrate when feeding himself! Organix says “Our baby foods are real foods…

It’s a big moment when your child progresses from their sleeping bag to bedding and I was delighted when we were asked if we wanted to review some bedding from baroo, who specialise in bedding for babies and toddlers as well as gorgeous Moses baskets. Edward loves giraffes so we chose the Just Giraffe Toddler Bedding which consisted of a pillow and duvet cover. Natural gingham with fun stick giraffe character Fully reversible Toddler Bed/Cotbed Size: 150cm x 120cm Pillowcase Size: 60cm x 40cm. 100% Cotton Machine Washable The bedding looked lovely so I ripped off the packaging and quickly put…

Edward is a simple boy and at 16 months likes playing, eating and sleeping. Fortunately for him BigJigs sent him a farm house shape sorter to play with. This is a lovely wooden toy and Edward knew straight away what to do with it. Two of the slats on the roof come off so the wooden animals can be stored inside and the other two slats are angled forming a handle so it can be picked up easily by little hands. Around each side are shapes which the animals can be pushed through. Edward has had hours of fun with…

*****Competition has now closed and the winner has been notified***** Shanta Everington is the author of ‘The Terrible Twos: A Parent’s Guide’ and she has just published her second book, ‘Baby’s First Year: A Parent’s Guide’, which has just been published (available from Amazon, Need2Know Books and all good bookstores). Shanta kindly agreed to answer some questions. What inspired you to write this book? When my son was born five years ago, like most new parents, I didn’t know what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I read a lot of parenting books but none of them really spoke…

Yesterday I answered a knock at the door to a man with a flower delivery for me. Had I forgotten my birthday? Was it our wedding anniversary or a significant date? No, and sadly the flowers weren’t from my husband. I had chosen them myself to brighten up the house with the miserable summer weather we’ve been having lately. I chose the scent of summer vase arrangement and although the flowers I received didn’t exactly match the description on the website they are beautiful and look great on the mantelpiece. If you’re looking for a florist in Nottingham or round…
