    Monday happy things

It’s Monday and my 3 year old has a taster session at her new nursery this afternoon so time for a quick post – my weekly Monday happy things: On Saturday we enjoyed our annual fun day out at Legoland. The weather was surprisingly hot, which was a good thing, and the children had a great time going on as many rides as we could squeeze in. We had taken their swimming costumes so they could play in Splash Safari in Duplo Valley and my 3 year old loved the new Heartlake City area. We all quite liked the huge…

    Monday happy things

We’re now halfway through our summer holidays. The days are flying by and we’ve had lots of fun this week. My Monday happy things are: I went to a fun workshop to celebrate the launch of Furniture Hacks by Hesta Van Overbeek at West Elm. Her book is lovely, packed full of ways to upcycle and update your home, and I will be reviewing it here shortly. I made a clock using a plate from West Elm which is one of the projects in the book. My 3 year old went to her first ballet class. She sulked a lot…

    Summer fun with Lego

It’s hard to believe that one week of the Summer holidays has already flown by. We’ve been really busy with days out, trips to the cinema and lot of play time at home. I’m enjoying spending time with my 5 year old and it’s lovely watching him play all day and have fun with his sister. There has been lots of Summer fun with Lego play. We always have our home made Lego table out which acts as a permanent invitation to play. They also have a couple of boxes of Lego and Lego Duplo so it’s their toy of…

How to make a Lego clock

One of my favourite things about being a parent is the chance to explore toys the second time around. I’m a huge advocate of learning through play and I love to see my children enjoy toys that I also played with. Some toys are classics like Lego and Playmobil and I love to plan how I can use these toys when my children no longer want them. Over the weekend I experimented with a few spare Lego Duplo blocks to create a colourful Lego Duplo clock, similar to the Playmobil clock I made a few years ago. Equipment to make…

    Hubelino marble run sets

Last year we told you about Hubelino marble run sets. The pieces are 100% compatible with Lego Duplo bricks which means you can create some really fun structures. This year we were sent two fun extension sets which means my children can have even more fun. The first set was the Twister Extension Set which has 22 parts including 2 Twisters that spin the ball around and eventually drop in in their middle. As you can see my 5 year old immediately enlisted the help of his Daddy to try some of the layouts suggested in the accompanying booklet. The…

    On my mantle – March

My Mantle is looking a little pared back this month, completely by design. We’ve had Mother’s Day and two birthdays which has meant lots of new toys around the house. I love having a little space to curate and with Spring in the air I’m definitely channelling Spring indoors too. Earlier this month I made a really easy DIY Pom pom tree. It was so simple but pretty and we’ve all enjoyed looking at it. It was looking a little squished in the glass jar so I moved it to my Orla Kiely vase and it has really spread out…

    Monday happy things

Another Monday and today is definitely the last day of our Christmas holiday. My husband is already back at work and I am (mentally at least) prepared for the nursery/school run/station drop off first thing tomorrow morning. We had a small splurge in the Lego shop and bought two new sets. We’ve already built and played with the new Lego Frozen set – Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle. The children love it and I enjoyed building it! We also treated ourselves to the new Lego Ideas Bird set which has just been released. I really can’t wait to build them but…

    Our Advent Box

I’m really looking forward to December 1st as for me, that’s when Christmas really starts. The Christmas shopping is done, food ordered and planned which means we can look forward to the children’s Christmas concerts, making some lovely decorations and visiting Father Christmas in his grotto. Every year we celebrate Advent with Advent calendars and a book Advent. This year I have introduced an Advent Box Crate to open on December 1st. It’s packed full of goodies for us all to enjoy in the run up to Christmas Day. Most importantly it contains our Elf on the Shelf who will…

Fun with the Lego Duplo Batcave Adventure

Now we’re back from our week away we’ve been having lots of fun playing with our toys at home. Both children said they missed their toys whilst we were away (and it felt like we had taken most of them with us!). The Lego Duplo Batcave Adventure has been the latest addition to our collection. It’s a great set and my 4 year old has been enjoying building it, it fits perfectly on our Lego table. He’s more than capable of following the instructions and this is one of the things I love about Lego Duplo. The instructions are clear…
