My husband hates the fact that I occasionally buy packet mixes. I think they’re perfect for keeping in the cupboard and whipping out if you need to produce some cake in a hurry (and they’re usually better than shop bought cake!). The latest addition to my cupboard has been Wright’s Ginger cake mix which I spotted on a recent shopping trip. Wright’s Ginger cake mix is a complete mix that contains a blend of unrefined sugars to produce a traditional style Ginger cake. It contains everything you need to make the cake, only requiring the addition of water and oil.…

*****Giveaway is now closed and the winner is Helen***** You probably won’t be surprised to hear that I’m a huge fan of the The Gingerbread Man story. I have a couple of versions of the story but recently came across a beautifully illustrated version from Child’s Play which brings the classic fairy tale up to date. The book contains lots of lift up flaps so you can get really involved in seeing how the story unfolds. I never tire of reading this story to my children and my son loves reading it with me. What could be better to accompany…

Anchor Butter is bringing back Elevenses! Well… It never really went anywhere, it’s just been a little forgotten. They want to empower people who feel the need to have a nice little sit, with a cup of tea and a nibble at around 11 o’clock. I love baking so was happy to bring back elevenses in our house by whipping up a batch of gingerbread biscuits using yummy Anchor butter. Here’s a link to the gingerbread recipe, just in case you want to make some yourself. Giveaway The lovely people at Anchor have given me some gorgeous items to offer…

As a busy mum of two I am happy to cut corners where possible. I love anything that saves me time so loved the look of a gingerbread dough block which I came across in Sainsbury’s recently. At £2 for a 350g block it is quite expensive but great to keep in the fridge if you have unexpected guests coming round and need to whip up some biscuits without getting your hands dirty! You need to keep the dough in the fridge and remove 30 minutes before you want to start baking. It’s quite a heavy dough and was quite…

Just before Christmas I came across another seasonal product from Sainbury’s – gingerbread flavour sauce. The picture on the front looked delicious so I foolishly added it to my basket. Of course I then needed something to eat with it so bought some treacle sponge pudding too. I was really looking forward to trying the sauce so waited until my dinner had gone down before heating the sauce and pouring it over the pudding. Hmmm. I have to admit that although it smelt good (just like gingerbread!) it didn’t taste as I expected and wasn’t that nice! In fact it…

I must admit that I seriously underestimated how much time I would have for our Christmas preparations with two little ones keeping me busy. Fortunately I was sent a Gingerbread House Kit from Bespoke Foods to try. The kit is fantastic for busy mum’s as it contains everything needed to build and decorate a lovely gingerbread house. The house pieces are already cut and the kit includes three bags of icing, sweets to decorate, a gingerbread tree and Father Christmas figure. The packaging also contains step-by-step picture instructions – perfect for older children to follow. The kit was simple to…

I don’t often find myself in Sainsbury’s but at the weekend we picked up some shopping where I came across Sainsbury’s Mini Gingerbread Men Biscuits in a gift box. Of course I had to try them but I really wish I hadn’t! Bizarrely I can’t find any reference to them on Sainsbury’s own website but I promise I haven’t made them up. The biscuits come in a small cardboard box shaped like a house and contain a number of mini biscuits. They tasted dry, rock hard (despite being sealed in a bag) and not particularly gingery – I wouldn’t buy…

I’ll admit I can’t walk past a supermarket without having a quick look round. You never know what new products you’ll find which is how I came across Fiona Cairns Gingerbread Tree Decorations in Waitrose the other day. They were expensive but I couldn’t resist the cellophane wrapping and pretty ribbon – fickle I know. £3.29 will buy 6 biscuits – 3 gingerbread hearts and 3 gingerbread stars. Each biscuit has a hole stamped through it and comes with a piece of coloured ribbon so you can decorate your Christmas tree with your expensive gingerbread biscuits if you wish. Once…

Today was the second day I managed to juggle two children on my own and to celebrate I thought I would also do some home baking! Big Brother loves gingerbread as much as I do so we used the gnome breadmen shaped cookie cutters which we were recently sent to try. Not your usual cookie cutter, the humble garden gnome is back and this time they’re taking pride of place in our kitchens. These fun new Gnome Breadmen shaped cookie cutters are great for the whole family to enjoy; whether you’re baking, decorating or eating them! We slightly adapted the…
