I’m having difficulty keeping up with the prompts for The Gallery but I’m really enjoying the opportunity to look at all my photos so I will persevere. Crossbones graveyard, Southwark Some months ago we headed to Borough Market for the morning. Down a side street we came across the memorial gates to the Crossbones graveyard, an unconsecrated graveyard dating back to medieval times. It’s thought that it was used as a burial ground for local prostitutes. I love the way the gates have been used by both men and women to leave their own messages, flowers and decorations. A great…

We’re coming to the end of a week spent in Devon and Cornwall. It has been quite an experiencing holidaying with an 11 week old! However, we managed to have a great time and visited Lanhydrock, a monkey sanctuary and the Eden Project, not to mention the picturesque seaside villages of Looe and Polperro. Here is my favourite picture, taken at the Eden Project. I suppose I didn’t really anticipate there being any problems other than a disruption to the nice routine we had going. What I failed to consider were the lack of child-friendly places for an 11 week…

The theme for The Gallery this week is: Men. Pictures of the men in your life. There are two men in my life, my lovely husband and brand new baby boy. In the short time since he was born (7 weeks!) I have managed to take more photographs of the baby than my husband during the years since we met and got together. In recognition of the only man who can put up with me I have found my favourite photographs of him: kite flying on the Isle of Wight persuading me a weekend on a canal boat in February…

It’s taken me a while to come up with a picture for this weeks’ The Gallery. I have spent ages looking through my albums. The theme was to paint a picture of the world we live in: The hidden bits, the bits you feel are special and people should know about. The bits people wouldn’t necessarily see. In summer 2008 we were fortunate enough to get places on a tour of the sound mirrors at Dungeness. I think we had heard about them on Radio 4 and were really keen to go and see them for ourselves, combined with a…

There’s a wonderful exhibition at the Museum of Childhood at the moment. It’s called Make Do and Mend and according to their website: “How can a broken shopping trolley be transformed into a stylish piece of furniture? Anti-waste wartime tips on cutting excessive consumption have an obvious resonance in today’s economic climate and the campaign to salvage, recycle, and reduce your carbon footprint is also impacting on design”. Artists have worked with local school children to create some amazing pieces and the exhibition includes a chair made from a shopping trolley, chairs covered in magazines, vintage cups and saucers with…

Today we went for a muddy walk in Epping Forest. It’s not far from where we live and it was lovely to get out and about. We also visited Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge, a lovely, quirky, Tudor building. It’s been such a busy weekend. We went and saw Keane at the O2 on Friday and had a lovely meal at the Quality Chop House yesterday. I wish I could say I was ready for a new week but I’m not!
