Eau Thermale Avène review and giveaway

Eau Thermale Avène is a unique French skincare brand dedicated to each level of skin sensitivity; from sensitive, intolerant to allergic.  Each product contains the Avène Thermal Spring Water, a unique ingredient whose properties have been endorsed by dermatologists over the years. The range includes really gentle body care products suitable for both mum and baby, and even for use on eczema-prone skin. My 8 month old has really sensitive skin so I was interested in trying out the range. We’ve been using a couple of the products over the last few weeks and found the Avène Cold Cream Cleansing Bar…

    Water wipes

Before our son was born I admit I was pretty clueless about babies. It was only at our John Lewis nursery appointment that I learned about not using baby wipes for the first couple of weeks. So we stocked up on cotton wool and I religiously washed his face, fingers and toes with cotton wool and boiled water until he was 6 months old. Our little boy has had eczema since birth so we’ve always been careful what products we use on his face and body. I knew that most wipes contained preservatives or chemical additives so have always used…

    Bringing back bath time

I love this picture that I took tonight. We decided it was about time we re-introduced a regular bath time to our night-time routine. Over the last few weeks Edwards’ eczema has improved so much it’s difficult to believe I used to cry over his poor cracked skin. For a while we decided not to bath him as the water dried his skin out. There are still a few dry patches but it’s nothing like it was. Fortunately he still fits his baby bath but now he loves to sit upright – so different from a few weeks ago!

How to make a simple dribble bib

My son dribbles a lot. He’s coming up to 6 months and we’re waiting for him to cut his first tooth – I can see it! To try and protect his clothes and prevent his eczema getting aggravated I’ve made him a number of dribble bibs to mop up the drool. This pic shows him wearing one in my favourite Michael Miller fabric. You can buy dribble bibs everywhere but this took 15 mins on my trusty vintage Singer! How to make a simple dribble bib: I cut a rough triangle shape from two pieces of fabric, I used a…

    Eczema in young babies

Since my son was only 2 weeks old he developed eczema on his face and body. At first I wasn’t too worried and tried to keep his skin moisturised with olive oil. I only washed him in cooled boiled water without soap and washed his clothes separately with non-bio detergent. However, within 6 weeks the patches got bigger and itchier. I made a appointment at our local health centre and we were given a huge bottle of E45 to liberally apply. We discussed possible triggers to the eczema such as allergies to our cats, the washing powder we used or…
