Tonight we decided to treat ourselves to a meal out and went to the Quality Chop House in Farringdon, London. We had happy memories of eating there a couple of years ago and had never made the time to go back until tonight. Anyway, it is still there and we had a fantastic meal, with excellent service and a gorgeous bottle of rioja. We’ll have to visit more often and sample more of the menu.

We have just got back from another lovely weekend on the Isle of Wight. We spent Saturday scouring the many charity shops of Ryde and picked up some beautiful vintage plates and saucers. The lady in the shop said her family had the same set when she was growing up so thought they must be quite old. I spent some time with my mum who taught me how to use the sewing machine she has given me and I did my first piece of applique! She also helped me with my knitting and I knitted a cute little bonnet for…

We’ve had a busy weekend and therefore no time for crafting unfortunately 🙁 The weekend started with a big meal out with a bunch of friends at The Larder Restaurant on Friday night. The food wasn’t great but it was fun to be out and try somewhere new. We started, and ended, the evening with drinks in The Crown Tavern, Clerkenwell Green. Today we went south to West Norwood Cemetery. We’re on a mission to visit the Magnificent Seven this year. We’ve already been to Highgate Cemetery and Abney Park Cemetery. That just leaves Kensal Green, Nunhead Cemetery, Brompton Cemetery…

Ooops, I didn’t have time to post yesterday. I was too tired to to do anything after work last night except watch Ugly Betty! Today my mum visited us on a day trip from the Isle of Wight (thanks mum!). We went for lunch at a great gastro-pub in Winchmore Hill and she helped me with my knitting. She also helped me understand the instructions that came with my bias tape maker and got to grips with the fabric button kit. No pics of my mum advising us on the garden or making more curtains. Instead a photo of a…

We’re back from a lovely week away. The cottage was perfect and if anyone is looking for a lovely cottage in a sleepy seaside town I would recommend Brook Cottage in Dawlish. The town was great, although I spent too much at Harrison’s Amusement arcade. We even found a good curry house called the Paradise Palace tucked away in a back street on our last night. Yesterday we made good use of our National Trust membership and visited Greenway, the former home of Agatha Christie, and Coleton Fishacre. The we took the ferry into Dartmouth and hired a boat and…

Today we made a day trip to France to pick up some booze for us and fags for my sister. We spent a couple of hours driving round Calais, completely bewildered by the local tradition of wedding parties driving around the city centre tooting their horns! Saturday must be wedding day over there. Then we drove further up the coast to Dunkirk where we had something to eat in a cafe in the main square and people watched. It was so lovely being out of London, even if it was just for a couple of hours. And now we have…

The weather was gorgeous today, warm and sunny all day long. We made the most of it by spending all day out and about. First, we walked around Ryde, which must be my second favourite town on the Isle of Wight. Then we headed over to St Helen’s and had lunch with my sister at Baywatch on the Beach – a great restaurant serving delicious food which overlooks the Solent – so something nice to look at and lots of people to watch. Later on we drove down to Sandown where I tried to push back all the hideous memories…
