We have a slight obsession with fairy houses here at the gingerbread house blog. I’m not quite sure how it started but I’m pleased to say that not only is our own house and garden fairy friendly, but it seems that our little village is too. We’d been living here for a couple of months when a friend pointed out a fairy door on a nearby tree. We stopped to visit on a trip to the sweetie shop. There was no where to leave a note but we saw lots of people stopping to look. Then we heard rumours of…

A couple of weeks ago my 5 year old and I ventured into London for a day out on our own. He is great company and loves the tube so we made a little detour so we could take in the DLR too. Our destination was the Fashion and Textile Museum to see the Liberty in Fashion exhibition. Liberty in Fashion exhibition I’ve always loved Liberty fabric, especially the Liberty beanbag frog a family friend had when I was little. Do you remember them? I think they date from the 1980s and I managed to find one in a charity shop…

I have tech savvy children. Yes, at the grand old ages of 4 and 5 they already seem far more confident than I am with a laptop and technology in general. I think this can only be a good thing and I am keen to teach them good habits and the importance of safety online. Have you heard of Safer Internet Day? It will take place on the 9th February with the theme Play your part for a better internet! Co-ordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of…

I’ve managed to visit quite a few exhibitions lately. There are so many great things showing in London and this year I am going to make sure I make time to see them! So far this year I’ve seen the Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the British Library. Last weekend the whole family visited the Museum of London and the The Crime Museum Uncovered exhibition. This wasn’t our first attempt to go and see the exhibition. We bought tickets before Christmas but they were for the day after the latest terror attack in Paris and we didn’t feel like heading…

I’m getting a bit bored of writing about another busy week but it’s true. I can’t believe it’s Monday again and a new month to boot. We have lots of exciting things planned for February so it should be a great month. Anyway, time for my weekly roundup – Monday Happy Things. This week I’ve been using the new Orla Kiely handbag I bought in Covent Garden last weekend. I fell in love with my Little Owl Quilted Reversible Tote as it features my favourite stem pattern in a lovely quilted design. I chose the red colour to add a…

I hope you all had a great weekend. I don’t think we sat down once, it was a busy but fun weekend. Time once again for my weekly Monday Happy Things post. This week I have been singing along to Faure’s Requiem and Haydn’s Te Deum. Last year I joined a local choir and I am looking forward to performing these two pieces in March. On Thursday I went to the Hobbycraft Spring/Summer Press Show and came away with lots of inspiration. They had some lovely products and I was able to try my hand at stencilling, came away with…

We’re huge fans of Lego. My husband and I grew up with it and have grown into AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego!). The children love saving their pocket money to buy Lego sets, which are frequently featured on my other blog, Treading on Lego. We are hugely inspired by Lego and I recently had fun sharing 11 Lego crafts for kids and adults which we have made over the last few years. We try to visit Legoland Windsor every year, we’re lucky to only live 30 minutes away, and we’re already planning our next awesome family day out. In case…

I took the opportunity of a rare trip to London to pop into the British Library today to see the Alice in Wonderland exhibition today. Did you know that Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland were first published in 1865 so last year celebrated their 150th anniversary? I have to admit I haven’t seen or heard many things about the anniversary, although we did enjoy The Alice Look display at the Museum of Childhood last year. That was also the first time I had seen the Gallymoggers Reynard fabric from the Alice in Wonderland themed SS15 Collection by Liberty. I’m pleased to…

This morning we headed into London as we had received an invitation to watch The Lion Guard – Return of the Roar at the Ham Yard Hotel. The Ham Yard Hotel is a lovely venue, and we love The Lion King, so it was an easy decision to attend. Did you know The Lion King came out in 1994? Well the story continues with The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, a brand new film for television which will be shown on Disney Junior on Monday 8th February at 5.30. The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar Set in the…
