Despite enjoying the school holidays I have been planning for September and back to school. Half of the new uniform is bought but I’m putting off new school shoes for a week or two (always my least favourite job). My 4 year old will be starting Reception in September and taking a packed lunch so I’ve made her a personalised lunch bag to carry it in. I used a little cotton bag, Bostik Fine and Wide Glu Pen and cut out the first letter of her name using my Sizzix machine. The Bostik Fine and Wide Glu Pen can be…

To me summer means putting my feet up and trying to catch some of the Summer Olympics on tv. Although I’m not sporty or particularly competitive I just love the Olympics and watching the best sports people from around the world competing. I also think it’s a good way for my children to learn more about sports, different countries and hopefully inspire them too. I can’t miss an opportunity for seasonal crafting so have brought together 11 of the best Olympic crafts and activities for kids to celebrate the Games of the XXXI Olympiad: Easy tennis cupcakes Flag rock featuring…

Every month I challenge myself to make the Mollie Makes magazine cover gift. I’ve subscribed since it first came out and have a drawer full of unopened kits – but no more! I’ve been making more time for crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new with each of them. Issue 69 of Mollie Makes came with a cute Pom Pom Necklace Kit. There was also a a little booklet with 3 bonus projects – to make a felt bouquet, pastel drop mobile and a Scandi cushion. I didn’t like the necklace so decided to…

We really enjoy taking part in the monthly Project: recycle and create blog hop as it gives us the chance to try different things. This month the theme was Scrap Paper and we decided to make bookmarks. Both children are taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge so this was a fun craft for them to make their own bookmarks. Equipment to make DIY paper clip bookmarks: Large paper clips Scrap paper Scissors Sticky tape How to make DIY paper clip bookmarks: We have lots of scrap paper from magazines, old games as well as vintage papers I’ve found in…

I love craft books and it seems my enthusiasm has passed to my children too. Every time they hear the sound of the postman dropping a book through the letterbox they rush to open it. Next month sees the publication of I Can Make My Own Accessories, a follow-on from the popular I Can Make Dolls’ Clothes – both from Thames & Hudson. Written by former head of Children’s Wear Design at Liberty of London Louise Scott-Smith, and graphic designer Georgia Vaux, I Can Make My Own Accessories features on-trend pieces such as a festival garland and brooch. With easy-to-follow guides, this creative book teaches children aged…

My children are so sporty and I really don’t know where they get it from (clearly not me!). This week they are having fun at Super Camp and it sounds like they are playing all sorts of different games which have inspired me to make these DIY gold winners trophies. I’m really hoping they will want to sit and watch some of the Olympics with me when it starts. I enjoy watching sports and I’m quite enjoying the summer of sports and it’s definitely influencing our crafting. The warm weather has been perfect for our latest craft which I wanted…

There seen to be lots of things going on at the moment which I feel quite patriotic about. Andy Murray winning at Wimbledon for the second time, Chris Froome becoming Britain’s first three-time winner of the Tour de France, and hopefully lots of British success at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio next month. So I thought it was good time to share a quick and easy tutorial for my red white and blue circle bunting. I used a Sizzix die and machine to do all the hard work for me, but this could easily be done by hand. How…

I know there are some amazing and hotly anticipated films coming out this summer; think Finding Dory, Ghostbusters and The BFG. So I was pretty excited to learn about the new adaptation of Swallows and Amazons, the classic children’s story by Arthur Ransome, was being updated for the big screen. This morning we were invited along to watch it before it is released on 19th August. Swallows and Amazon is a classic, I read the book when I was a child and longed for the same adventures as John, Susan, Titty and Roger Walker. There has been one adaptation, back…

I’ve been making more time for crafting and I love to make the kits and hopefully try something new with each of the cover gifts. Issue 68 included the Mollie Makes Cacti & Succulent Mini Hoop Art kit. It contained everything needed – 2 mini wooden hoops, grey cotton fabric, embroidery threads and a needle. Inside the magazine was a page of 8 patterns for cacti and succulents.…
