    Be prepared!

Yesterday I read on Facebook that one of my friends was putting up her Christmas tree. November seems a little early to me but her grand-daughter insisted! With Christmas just around the corner it’s the perfect time to get together to create some unique home-made decorations for your home. I’ve been busy ‘pinning’ crafty ideas to keep Edward occupied and I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can make. We were sent some new Scotch Restickables Tabs which should help keep our decorations up. The double-sided adhesive tabs are really easy to use and ideal for sticking festive decorations…

    A very Cath Kidston Christmas

I love it when the Christmas Cath Kidston catalogue lands on my doorstep. I have to admit I don’t get to visit a physical shop as often as I like, as they’re not terribly pram-friendly, but that doesn’t stop my (online) window shopping. I’ve almost finished my Christmas shopping and most family members have at least one present from Cath Kidston. My sister has recently moved house so she has a lovely set of these cheery bon bon stripe bath towels to unwrap. We used to have airedales, which are a breed of terrier, so I couldn’t resist this Stanley…

    Felt gingerbread love

‘Tis finally the season to be jolly which means I’ve been snapping up everything gingerbread to show you over the next couple of weeks. My energy levels are disappearing but I have a few swaps to honour before the arrival of Second Baby. This week I’ve been making a new type of gingerbread house for one swap partner, very simple with a red and white bead hanger and a metal heart on the door. I’m hoping my crafting mojo will return soon. I’ve been struggling to pull out my sewing basket after Edward has gone to bed yet there are…

    Gingerbread house finds

More vintage Christmas loveliness has found it’s way into our house!I don’t need many more vintage decorations but fortunately my excuse is that I’ve been looking for something for my swap partner in a seasonal swap. Luckily I came across a bag of goodies when I was shopping whilst Edward had his first nursery session last week. The bag contained two vintage wise men (do you think my swap partner would notice no. 3 was missing?). There were some vintage bells (sent off to another swap partner!) and these: I’m not sure how you would describe them. They are plastic…

    Gingerbread house finds

Is it too early for a glimpse of the big red guy? On my latest thrifting trip I spotted a small paper bag hiding on the haberdashery shelf. It was printed with Your Woman and Home FATHER CHRISTMAS. I can’t resist vintage Christmas decorations so took a closer look. It contained a single piece of fabric, pre-printed with a pattern for a Father Christmas decoration. I think it must have been a free gift with the Christmas issue of Your Woman and Home. I haven’t been able to find out any information about the magazine – perhaps it was related…

How to make a wooden Christmas tree

I know we haven’t had Halloween yet but I’ve been itching to show you our wooden Christmas tree. I’ve seen lots of variations of wooden Christmas trees using driftwood so every time we were at the seaside I would scour the beach for suitable pieces. After months of looking and not finding I gave up and decided small branches from the local woods would do just as well! I also found a piece of scaffolding wood outside our house so knew this project was meant to be. How to make a wooden Christmas tree You will need: a selection of…

Candy garland – good enough to eat

My Christmas decoration making has begun! One of my favourite craft books is Fa la la la Felt which is full of festive inspiration, from ornaments, decorations and stockings. I’ve made a couple of projects from it, including the felt bird garland, as I just love working with felt. We’re not quite sure how to decorate our house this year with a toddler who can’t help but touch everything, but I would like to have a colour scheme. Red and white always seem very Christmassy which is why I liked the look of the Christmas Candy Garland. It’s a simple…

    Gingerbread house finds

I love preparing for Christmas and get excited when I see Christmas products creeping into shops. I know we haven’t had Halloween or Bonfire Night yet but I can’t help picking up Christmas presents, finishing off handmade gifts and signing up to Christmas swaps (Very Berry Xmas Ornament Scrappy Swap, Festive Faith, Hope and Charity Swapping, and an Advent Swap). Which is why I couldn’t resist this little handful of vintage Christmas goodies on my latest thrifting trip. I found a lovely retro Christmassy box containing vintage Christmas cards and gift tags. Some are a bit sinister (check out that…

    Wood vs. plastic

Yesterday I went shopping and I’m not afraid to admit I was also looking for Christmas wrapping paper! The mere thought of having to buy, wrap and deliver all those Christmas presents worries me every year and with the seasonal arrival of Second Baby I am on a mission to be ready earlier than ever. I also have a couple of birthday presents to arrange so it feels very good to be able to say I have a lot of my presents sorted. I love handmade so I’ve really enjoyed making a lot of presents and I’ll be showing off…
